New £6k funding rules for 2013-2014

Please can someone help me with understanding the new government funding rules for Statemented children in mainstream settings

I understand that the first £6k has to come out of school's money. (I think!). If my child has a Statement but the school has to buy-in, say, £5k of external provision, does that mean that the cost of his place is £5k plus £6k. Or does it mean its £6k minus £5k and the excess £1k is not needed?

Hope this is clear! But i need to know what this actually means!

Yes that's right keeping, I do. I'd like to see if the costs are comparable. I don't think DS could cope or would need more than 15 hours tutoring a week anyway as it is so intensive and that seems to be £25 to 35 an hour. We would just need SLT and OT on top although OT could be whittled down at home.

Mymatemax - I agree. Initially, it is about need but when the LA say they have somewhere else that can meet that need, it comes down to cost between the placements. However, they would still have to show that the placement is capable of meeting the need before they get to an argument about costs.
