HI, I applied for DLA 3 weeks ago for DS2 and I rang today to ask if they had received the forms, the man I spoke to on the phone said yes and that a decision had been made.

Is it a bad sign that a decision has been made but there's no payment been made into my account? I keep hearing that the money goes into your account the after the decision has been made and that it is always paid before you receive an award letter.

I sent a 'change of circumstances' letter to the DLA at the end of April....got a decision letter through the post mid July stating that my claim remains the same, I immediately requested a 'mandatory reconsideration' Do you know how the DLA contact you with the outcome? is it via telephone or postal? I'm shocked at the long, lengthy process

I may, I'm just relieved that they didn't turn us down again at the moment. I can live off what I have coming in now, his bus fares were crippling me as I have to go with him to school etc. Smile He does need supervision when he's outside; it's not just his feet but the comments that he makes to strangers. He'll tell them not to swear or smoke or spit; I can see why because it is gross, he just doesn't get that some people will hit him. Sad

Yay so happy the application was successful. Can you not appeal against the decision not to award mobility? DS can actually walk but they have awarded mobility as he needs supervision and guidance outdoors, I think it must depend on who's desk your application lands on.

I popped to the bank before I went to the supermarket and there was an extra £350 in there! Grin Arrived home to a letter; they've awarded ds the medium care rate!! Nothing for mobility though (he can't walk very far without pain). A humungous thank you to you all for recommending the cerebra guide and listening to me moan Smile Thanks It'll make a huge difference to him.

I didn't get an appointed person letter?! Maybe that was because they made their decision in just 4 days from receiving my completed claim form?

No I dont work , I will ring tax credits and carers in the morning.

I cant believe the claim has been succesful, I thought I had a fight on my hands Grin

I still need to send of DS3 claim form but not sure that it will be succesful as he is not 2 till may. But his needr are more than DS2s so I think I will give it a try. He has speech and social communication difficulties and is having ADOS in autumn, he already recieves speech therapy and is starting at special needs nursery in september.

Justpondering, do you work? If you get paid less than about £430 a month you will be eligible for Carer's allowance. Otherwise it should increase your child tax credits. Need to let them know.

He was let down by our last HA so is still on the road to being diagnosed (he's 14, I've been trying to get him some help since he was 7). His OT assessment isn't until the end of the month and the physio had to stop after 15 minutes because he was in too much pain. He's due to be reassessed by her at the end of the month too but she picked up SPD and hypotinia at the first appointment and they made him some new insoles for his shoes which have helped a little, which is great!! We only really have the letters from the paediatrician but I gave them the contact details for the physio. I don't think they will contact her though. Sad Fingers crossed.

Don't worry if it takes a long time - our recent renewal took nearly 3 months - I was really worried but it turned out fine.

I don't think there are any rules which suggest whether or not an award has been made. I think everyone gets the apppinted person letter (not sure though) I'm fairly sure I didn't receive a payment for the first award until after I had received the award letter.

Good luck to you op and everyone else.

I didn't put the sensory or social skills issues down on the form when I filled it in the first time as they have only just been picked up. I didn't know about the cerebra guide so all I wrote about was his mobility problems and problems getting dressed as these were the main problems. My neighbour filled in the 'people who know you' part as ds couldn't play outside for too long because of his mobility issues. I had a letter from ds's physio and sent that but they didn't contact her, only the GP who has only seen ds a few times in 9 years. They said that he wasn't eligible for mobility as he 'can actually walk', but he can only walk for a few minutes because of pain and he is unstable on his feet Confused. It was put down to hypermobility so I said this, it's not though, the new physio has said it's hypotonia. His feet flatten when he stands (they squish down IYKWIM) so the bones separate.

I needed a lot of help filling in the form this time, there's things I didn't realise I should write, especially when he's an only child, I can't see what is 'normal' to compare him to. MN has been a god send, as has the cerebra guide. I just hope it's detailed enough now and have enclosed lots of reports and referral letters from the paediatrician. I still won't know whether I have to appeal until they process the form though.

I have just recived an aappointed person letter in the post. Does anyone know what this means? Is it sent to everyone regardless of what the decision is?

What were the reasons for them turning you down if you dont mind me asking? DS only has diagnosis of speech disorder and sensory processing difficulties at the moment but we are waiting on an adhd diagnosis.
