.. for want of a better word..

Hes lovely and funny and sociable, but he can't walk yet due to his asd so is often on the floor with other babies and doesn't know how to interact with them. He will tap them on the head, usually quite hard and repeatedly as a greeting. To the other parent this looks like an attack so I always apologise and move him away. Should I explain to the other parent he has asd or just carry on moving him away and apologising?
We are working on how to interact with other babies with him

If you know the other parents well, I would explain (as well as moving DS away and apologising). If you don’t, I wouldn’t explain, just keep moving and apologising.
