Make a stretchy wrap?

I was browsing to buy a Moby when it suddenly occurred to me that maybe all I need to do is buy 5 metres of jersey fabric like this

Am I missing something? I have never actually seen a Moby so is there more to it than just a long length of stretchy fabric?

Thank you!

just go to a market or a special fabric shop- not ebay (cant feel material) or anywhere as ridiculously overpriced as john lewis is for fabric. an asian area near you may have a reasonably priced fabric shop

I was pondering this myself. I'd love a Kari-me, but just fartoo expensive at the moment.

Thanks for the info.

These are the instructions I followed. You do need to feel the fabric, some can be very thin. Sales are on at the moment as well.

You can make them from fleece as well I think.

Stretchy wrap won't last for ages though, you will need something more supportive when your baby gets heavier (this would be the same with a Moby too!)

Yes, that's fine :) Just buy any jersey cotton. You need to cut it to 20" width (or 40" and fold in half to make an extra thick winter one) - you might need to taper the ends for tying if you want to do this.

However I'd buy from a fabric shop. I bought some from ebay to make one for a friend and when it arrived it was really thin and probably wouldn't have been very supportive. I got some for myself from a fabric shop, went for about a decent t-shirt material thickness, and it was brilliant, and so much cheaper than a branded sling.

Jersey (knit) fabric doesn't fray so no sewing involved either.

There's somewhere online with instructions, and info about what type of jersey to get. Can't find it at the mo but will look again.

No, not missing anything. Just make sure it's strong enough. 5 metres of fabric is often expensive.
I got some gorgeous lengths in India and used them - tied them like a didymos sling. But you can use much less fabric and tie it more like they do in Africa.
