Sleep

baby sleeping on me through night - is it safe?

DD is almost 8 weeks old-she falls asleep in moses basket ok, and sleeps from about 10pm-2am for next feed, but then she doesnt like being put down back in her basket-she might doze for 10 mins in there but then what seems like trapped wind wakes her up and distresses her so she cries til its come out

The last couple of nights I've taken her in bed with us and she has slept on my chest - sleeping on her tummy but head to one side, so I can doze too

Is this okay or is she in any danger from sleeping that way? and any other tips for getting her back to sleep in her basket if thats a better thing to do, or will she grow out of it?

thanks in advance

DD used to do this too - I used to love it and hate it in equal measure. Love it because there is nothing better than the feeling of that warm baby snoozing away on your chest BUT hated it coz after a while it feels v heavy and you -just-can't-move-because-she-will-wake-up...

I remember asking my GP about it and she said "if she is still doing it at 18 come and tell me, because then you will have a problem!"

I think it went on for a little while - a couple of weeks perhaps. But then she found her thumb and that seemed to settle her. (Which was a relief then, but 8 years later she is looking at some serious orthodontic work.)

(And she sleeps in her own bed now!! But she still loves cuddles)

It didn't last long. Only the first few months when there as no real routine and she was a bit colic-y.

She grew out of it and has slept in her cot ever since.

MIne didn't last very long in basket at all.

Prefer him to be in cot where I can see him and he can see me through the bars.

He goes off to sleep much better in cot......and actually wouldn't fit his moses anymore!

I've done this a few times but never been able to sleep through worry something might happen.

I let him fall properly deeply asleep then transferred him. Sleep much better myself knowing he's safe.

I'm sure people will say there are risks associated with her being in bed with you but all I can say is I did the same thing when dd was tiny.

All she seemed to want was my warmth so I used to sleep on the sofa or in bed with her on my chest.

Although I slept I was always acutely aware of her being there and the slightest snuffle had me checking her.

If it's helping you and her get some sleep then it can't be a bad thing eh?!
