Do men need more sleep than women?

Dp claims he needs 9 hours a night, and 2 lie ins. In fact he can't fuction without at least one lie in a week until about 10.30.

I have never needed a lie in, since having ds 14 years ago, in fact i think they are a waste of a day. Am I only the only person in the world like this? When I wake up, I have to get up, I get bored lying there staring at the ceiling

In fact I wish I was like Mrs T, and only needed 4 hours. I would be able to get so much more done

I am an owl. Far more functional at 4 am if I haven't slept first.

Yeah, probably larks and owls.

I go to bed early as well, so I must be a lark (not an early lark though, a sort of 7.30 am lark)

It's just in every relationship I've had, I seem to pick men who need a lot of sleep, so perhaps I have some sort of problem here!

I think some PEOPLE (gender irrelevant) need more sleep than others. Margaret Thatcher managed to "run" the country for years only ever on 4 hours sleep a night (might explain things) but I NEED 9 on average. I can cope for several weeks with approx 5 hours a night but then my body caves and I have to sleep. DP needs about 7.5 a night but he needs a lie in each week - and to be honest I grant it because it makes him nicer to know!

Some people need more sleep than others. I don't think it is gender related.

Also some people are larks and some are owls.

My DH is a bit like yours fizzbuzz but he only gets to lie in until 9am once a week (it is still 3 hours after the kids get up so a good lie in)

I don't do lie-ins, I didn't even manage them as a teenager, but I do need one really early night a week.

Aaah no Colditz...........he never gets it!
I think he it talking twaddle and tell him so. Never ever would I let him get away with not doing his share...No way.

But he does seem to need more sleep than me, and I have read somewhere that men need more kip

17 out of 24...could never do that..sometimes wish I could

"I must have 9 hours sleep a night and 2 lie ins" Is that his way of saying "You, Woman! I will carry on as before. you will skivvy for me! Chop, chop!"

DH would LOVE 9 hours a night and 2 lie ins.

He does need more sleep than I do, but he doesn't get that luxury.

I have and happily will sleep for 17 hours out of 24. So no, I don't think it's a man thing.

No, of course not! I need more sleep than dh but I wouldn't extrapolate to a general rule for everyone who happens to share my gender. Am cross this morning because dh woke me up fiddling around with the light fitting in the sitting room (directly under our bed).

You get up if you want to, but leave us sleepy ones alone. And don't make too much noise while you are about it!

I get a headache if I have a lie in, and I feel rushed all day.

i dream of laying in bed until 10.30 am!

DS wakes us between 6.30 and 7.00 am although the last couple of mornings it has been 5.00 am

don't think it is a male/female thing TBH
