My daughter sees a ghost

Hi my daughter has just turned 4 and has always been an amazing sleeper since I can remember. Last month she told me a black man stands in the corner of her room but he hasnt got a face. She said she has tried talking to him but because he hasnt got a face he wont talk back. She sees him in her room every night and two weeks ago she told me he threw her soft toy unicorn at her. She told him to stop and turned over to sleep she told me. Last night we have redecorated her room and I've moved her bed onto the opposite wall where he stands. Last night she woke up 3 times screaming foe me saying he was really close to her floating over her bed. I got the night light out and plugged it in and she was fine for the rest of the night. What should I do?

Is there another room she can sleep in?

I would also try to have someone come out to help (hard at moment).

Actually laughing at the person who said they don’t believe in ghosts and then saw one

Play it down. Don't 'feed' the 'ghost' by talking about it, explaining it, getting her to draw pictures, any of that. Just keep the night light on. Nice sleep routine before bed, happy stories, glass of milk, etc. She'll grow out of it.

I've just remembered something my mum did. My brother was afraid of monsters in his bedroom so mum sat down with my brother and drawing paper and they created a monster that would protect him from other monsters.

Obviously this approach depends on the child.

I agree with the ghost spray. I have done this in the past. I put some Zoflora and water in a spray bottle (ghosts don’t like the floral smell Grin) and sprayed it around in his room.

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

I saw a ghost nightly at a similar age. It was in the hallway outside my room.
As an adult I can see the shadow that was my 'ghost' (the way a light from the next house comes through the window of my parents house). But it was very real when I was a child.

Exactly this. I had a ‘ghost’ that was a garment hanging on the back of my childhood bedroom door that looked completely unremarkable in daytime and like a threatening silhouette by night. Spend some time in there in night-time conditions to figure out what triggered this fear for your DD. In fact, spending a night or two sleeping there might be a good idea anyway.

This is serious op. Have you moved house yet?? Poor child she is right. I used to see this 10 yrs ago and after research I learned that the block of flats i used to live in used to be a graveyard before they were built. I moved out. I used to see this ghost by my bedroom door staring at me . I have goosebumps writing this .I haven’t seen anything since moving house. It was HELL.

@letsmakethishappen with respect, that's a little bit dramatic.

Ghosts don't exist. Your mind was playing tricks, as is the OP's daughter. Moving house to solve the problem is ridiculous.

Grow up, @letsmakethishappen. Let me categorically tell you that whatever your child self believed she saw in her bedroom, it is far more likely to be a trick of the light or the product of a susceptible imagination that the spirits of the dead, angry that someone had built flats on their graves.

I mean, you get that people die everywhere, right? Hmm

Coming from a woman who never slept alone for years because of a similar experience as a child, sleep with her for the next few nights. I would literally sleep anywhere but my room.

Agree with people saying make sure the room is tidy and there’s nothing hanging on the door (for example) that could look like a silhouette in the dark.

Glad the nightlight helped.

When I was a child there was a really ugly old wardrobe in my room and I used to have a reoccurring dream that a scary wolf would come out of it. This “ghost” is no more real than my imaginary wolf.

Since the night light my daughter is sleeping amazingly with no more mention of the "black man". Only thing is my son who is 6 is now saying he is seeing him in his room by his desk. He says the black man runs towards him then disappears x

My son used to talk about the black man who comes to his room. He was absolutely terrified and said the man would come from the hallway to his bed. He would check the front door was locked before he went to bed. My husband stayed in his room with him a few times and then we used night lights. Eventually he forgot about it.
