Controlled crying - How many times???

When ds, now one, was about 7 and a half months old we did controlled crying to get him sleeping through the night. It took about a week and it worked really well till he got ill. Then he started waking again in the night and we would comfort him cos he was ill with a fever. Once he was fully recovered we had to do controlled crying again to get him sleeping through. This has now happened 3 or 4 times in total.

He's recently been unwell agian and keeps on coming in with us in the middle of the night, refusing to settle back in his cot. We just don't know wether we should be doing controlled crying again. has anyone else had this problem?? Do you do it again and agian??

It's so hard to do and it gets harder every time cos as he gets older he cried so much louder and is so much more dtermined to get his own way - and he's able to stand up in his cot!! I think we both know this is the only way we can get him to sleep through again, but really don't want to do it again. The other thing is that last week one night he just selpt through in his cos cot - just out of the blue - and then back to the same the night after!

touch wood, I have not had this prob since we did cc at 8mths (ds now 9.5mths). He was ill last week and kept waking and grizzling, he did wake and cry at around 1am and I went to him. Glad I did as he was raging hot. Gave him calpol, 4oz of milk lots of cuddles and returned him to his cot. He protested for less than 5 mins and went off to sleep again. I felt really mean but short of having him in our bed (which I felt was wrong considering how hot he already was) there was not a lot more I could do. Had he cried again I would have let him fall asleep in my arms but, fortunately, he didn't. I have heard that once you have done cc you will have to repeat it after such instances. That's the price for a good sleeper I guess

I think you do, but each time, I reckon it should take less time to get the result because you're just re-establishing a pre-existing routine.
