Too early to move to a cot?!

My little boy is 5 weeks old, and is struggling for room in his Moses basket, and is really unsettled in it, he stirs all the time when in his basket but if he nods off on his play mat he'll sleep for a couple of hours solid which isn't ideal as you can imagine, he seems to settle better on his mat as he can have his arms spread out! He is quite a chunky lad as was 8lb 10oz born, and was 9lb 14oz at 2 weeks old! Getting him weighed again on Tuesday to see what he weighs now! I was wondering if it would be ok to put him into his cot now at 5 weeks old (it will be in my bedroom with me, so will still be close by) to see if that helps him sleep better with the extra room?! A little worried as my little girl was 12 weeks when she went into her cot, but she was only dinky, and my little man is much chunkier and bigger!! Please any advice or guidance would be great Smile

I have a feeling my little one will look so tiny in his cot too! I've been and bought a new mattress for his cot, and will be moving it into my bedroom ready be for tomorrow night! Always put him feet to foot even in his Moses basket, always have! I will be tying a grobag when he's in his cot though as he hates having blankets on! Thanks for the advice xx

Babies can go in a cot from birth. I am not sure what is concerning you about this? A cot is a perfectly safe place for baby to sleep at any age.

You should room share - so baby sleeps in a room you are for all times (including you being in the room with sleeping baby daytime and evenings) for the first 6 months.

I moved my DS into a cotbed at 5 weeks (he looks so small in it!) but he kept hitting the sides of the Moses basket and waking himself up. He slept so much better in the cot. I put him at the bottom so he couldn't slip down under the blanket and then started using a gro bag as soon as he was big enough

I have two ds and put them both in a cot next to the bed within weeks of being born! Ds1 was 9lbs4oz when born so just settled much better in a bigger space. Remember to put him in with his feet right at the bottom (not in the middle) so if he wriggles the covers don't come over his head. Or use a gro-bag.

My DS went into a cot on the day he came home from hospital.
