Sleep

9 month old rubbish sleeper

Not sure if I'm looking for advice - I feel like we've tried everything and nothing works - but is there anyone else out there with a 9 month old who is a rubbish sleeper.

She's never had anywhere near the 'recommended' amount of sleep for her age but we've bumbled along. I thought we'd turned a huge corner recently as she's stopped waking every hour or 2 and was down to 2 wake ups at night. But now we have another problem! When she wakes up, she wakes up for 2-3 hours at a time! I'm not sure what's worse, the multiple wakings or the being awake between 11pm and 2/3am. I can't get back to sleep easily after being awake that long so am only getting between 3 and 4 hours of (broken) sleep a night.

We've tried getting day time naps sorted (they are now at last regular but still short), DH doing a bottle feed, leaving her to cry (she just becomes hysterical), putting down awake (although there is no such thing as 'drowsy but awake' with DD, it's awake and howling or asleep), co-sleeping (she just climbs all over me) and we're back to me feeding her to sleep and transferring her to the cot.

If you've had a baby like this, please tell me it gets better? If you've currently got a baby like this, make me feel like I'm not the only one!

Yep- two and a half year old here too.

Ah well. Sleep is for the weak! (Or so my DCs clearly think).

Thanks red, it helps to know there are others going through it too! Hope things improve for you soon. At 5 months I thought 'oh, it's just a phase' but it's been going on so long now I'm kind of resigned to it. Do you have older DCs? I have 3 year old DTs so there's no slepeing when the baby sleeps either (how I hate that phrase).

Ha! I just posted about my 5 month old who also does the "wide awake" thing for an hour or two at least once a night, often twice.

No idea how to stop it but you aren't alone! Here, have some Brew and Cake'
