said to restart pc so it could deal with it, so I did that.
Came back onto MN again and same thing again:
Am creating this post so I can report my own post and let HQ know that way.
Havent had any other websites open, so has to be MN - didn't they have this problem the other week, or something similar?

Anyone else?

Thank you Pinot and HelenMumsnet,

Weight off my mind, I've been panicking needlessly it would seem! Smile

@PersonalJesus

Oh, and would the virus thing explain why I was unable to post properly the other day?

I was trying to post, but I couldn't do paragraphs as the return key didn't seem to want to work. However, when I went into word to check this, it was ok?

No that was a regular bug, PersonalJesus. The Techs fixed that, too. Bless 'em.

This is probably way too late to be of any use, but just been brave enough to open laptop again! I was on AIBU, I can't remember the ad, but it was an orange coloured rectangle at the top of the page?

Avast alerted me, I'm sorry, I didn't hang around for details (coward). My poor ole laptop got absolutely hammered by a virus last Christmas and the whole episode scared me for life.

I'm still too freaked to go back on AIBU, is it ok now? You can probably sense I'm not the world's most confident person round computers...

Hello. We've just cleared the cache of old ads, too. So all should be well now.

Do let us know, please, if not.

Sorry about the system restore, Maryz - eek!

This is about the 3rd thread on this.
Are we being invaded Shock

Report
ShowOfHands · 01/10/2011 11:41

Avast is saying it on every page, active, threads I'm on, single threads, regardless of the ad. It says the threat is MN itself whereas when it did it before (couple of weeks ago) it listed the ad as a threat. Innocent smoothies, vodafone, something to do with hotpants are the first three ads I noticed but Avast says it's a malware from MN.

I had this too - my virus scanner had about 8 or 9 warnings. Sorry I didn't think to check the ads bu I'll know for future reference.

No need to apologise Pinot! But yes, this is usually an ad thang, so def worth noting for next time

I have had Nortons finding trojans as well. I think it was MN as I've never had any problems with the other sites I had open, but of course I can't be sure. I had already moved on by the time the alert came through so I don't which ads were there - sorry!

Okay - a TalkTalk banner at the top; Miller Homes; Great Little Trading Company. That's everything. I had kept my Active Conversations page open, so these are the original ads.

Thanks - this is all v helpful.

Any info you can give us about what you're seeing - and what ads are displaying - will help us hugely in trying to sort this out.
