I agree that it was unethical of MN to use the advert, but it has now been thouroughly debated. I for one am much more knowlegable about formula, the advertising ban and the cynical tactics of formula companies thanks to you and to this
debate.

This is what it's all about surely.

You all make excellent posts and spread wisdom on this wide forum. You provide a truly magnificent service to women from all walks of life.

I joined MN a couple of months ago and was so impressed because of women like you.

You are my favourite MNers. Please don't go. And if you do, let me know where you're going. Please.

mears, I'd be upset not to see your name pop up now and again, I think you're fab. As I've posted before, I think you, and other pros in the field add an immense amount to MN. (Haven't really chatted to anyone else bar sneaky).

Perhaps MN HQ can approach the client to negotiate a different format to the ad - ie. a direct link to the parenting network, in a banner instead of an inline promo (haven't, and won't check home page to find out, LOL); else perhaps any advertising / trading standard bodies / bf organisations can clarify the legality or otherwise of the ad to MN HQ ? Possibly a word with the client's PR agency would highlight some of the ill-feeling generated from the particular 'angle' this ad goes in IYSWIM - I'm sure the client enjoys the exposure, I'm not sure they benefit from the 'whirlwind' debate...

Failing this, perhaps those who feel the need to leave might come back when the advertising campaign they feel is anathema to their professional / voluntary roles is over ? I doubt MN will be running the same ad again, but it's their commercial decision and so it is a possibility. I think by clearly highlighting the PR / marketing / politics of the issue, the decades-old background to it etc. etc. more and more people get educated to the debate IMHO.

OK. Night feed over. Back to sleep. Thanks again to any mws / bfcs who have posted on MN. You've helped so many people, myself / dw included.

Agree that it is desperately sad to see people leaving over an ethical issue. Would never have imagined people would have to take a stand over MN. And we are losing people who have given countless hours of their time supporting others when they were vulnerable. This is so not what MN is meant to be about.

Dang I need to turn off the TV. I don't like hearing about that damn bird flu. For some reason it scares the beegeesuz outta me. Maybe b/c my gran lost her first husband and 2-year-old daughter to Spanish Flu, which started out as an avian virus . . .
