We are moving to Derby and so looking for secondary schools. Does anyone know what Derby Moor school is like, what reputation has it got?!!

John Port is supposed to be good but it is a very large school from my recollection (and the good/bad sides of it being so big).

Nottinghil PM me if you want more info. Would you be in Littleover School catchment? Much of Heatherton village is.

Thanks for the replies. Was thinking of moving to Heatherton village. In the Derby Moor catchment end apparently, saw a nice house there. Why does the school not have a very good reputation? I've noticed that they got 'good' from ofsted. Just so confused as to what to do. It's a nice new school as well by the looks of it?!

Know Derby well. Not keen on Derby Moor I'm afraid. Derby secondaries are very catchment driven, so be careful where you choose to live. As the above poster said, Chellaston/Landau/Ecclesbourne/Woodlands/Littleover are perceived as the best. Then maybe LeesBrook/John Port. People are generally not keen on Bemrose/Noel Baker/Sinfin/Merrill. Mostly due to GCSE results but also due to some gang issues/behaviour issues.

I used to work there. I left for reasons not connected with the school tho. It has got a good Ofsted, relatively recently. I know a few people who have left of late. Two of them work where I work now and are very relieved not to be teaching there.

That doesn't mean it is not a great school for the students tho!

I would say it doesn't have the best rep, tho when I worked there, there were a lot of very committed and talented staff.

Littleover School has a better reputation. Where are you looking to live? Chellaston school is well rated and very academic and maybe a bit hot housey; Lees Brook is having a new building and on the up; Woodlands has a Good Ofsted and a leafy catchment; Ecclesbourne is the crème de la crème (not actually in Derby but you can be in catchment for it in Derby city), again, very academic/leafy MC parents.

Landau Forte has a lot going for it (but very different holiday times from LA schools - this is good if you don't work in education!). No catchment as such tho.
