I suppose we will have an idea of how our ds did, but if you're like me I have no idea whether he will be 'eligible' given the numbers across the centres. Would also be interested to know if the maths really was easier than he though it would be, whether this will mean that the younger children will have an advantage with the scores standardised or does this make no difference. My ds is a spring bday. Does anyone know how many boys actually took it as apparently there were lots of girls at Greenshaw but also some boys there too? Roll on tomorrow. Hope they release the results at the same time.

586 is a big number!
What are the odds of getting in?
My DS happy!

Dibbleofficer, I've been doing those sums too!

360 places at the three Sutton grammars. Those are only available to the 799 that passed the SET. Some of those 799 will be siphoned off to St Olaves and Tiffin, depending on location, but no idea how much that will account for...

How much are the indies likely to take?

Anybody have any figures on how far down he waiting list the Sutton Grammars have gone in previous years?

Didn't realise Wilson's takes 180 - ok, so that makes a difference!

Wonder why WCGS have passed so many then?

Ladymuck · 23/10/2013 17:01

It is still nearly 5 boys for every place, but all depends on how many of those boys firstly rank highly enough, and secondly prefer other schools.

Yes true, but my philosophy is that I would honestly be happy with any one of the three, as I think there is little between them, and the gulf is between them and the comps/secondaries.

With DS having now passed Wilson's and WCGS, and knowing there is no further info to be had until one fateful day in March, I'm just trying to reassure myself that he has a good chance now?!?

MrsSteptoe · 23/10/2013 17:14

Thanks, shaq - you never know, but I'm so bad-tempered now that I think they could offer me a place on the spot and I'd want to tell them to f* off. This is ridiculous. People have no homes and massive debts, and I'm stressing about one school. STOP IT.

If you are sitting Sutton too, then yes, the chances are good, and close enough that you could feel genuinely disappointed if you were not to get a place come March. But equally there is a lot of movement in March and April, so even if the news on 4 March isn't what you want, it still doesn't mean that it is all over.

There were a lot of prep school uniforms at WCGS and Wilsons so it wouldn't surprise me if a significant number are after Whitgift/Trinity scholarships. [There are other schools as well obviously, but those 2 have a particularly generous scholarship fund].

Thanks Ladymuck, that's the kind of reassurance I'm after! Grin

One thing that I don't understand, if on the 4 March, we don't get offers on the Grammars, am I not automatically offered one of the comps on my CAF? Or am I supposed to sit on that, hoping to move up the waiting list?

Report
Ladymuck · 23/10/2013 17:32

Shaq, assuming you are eligible for a comp place, then yes, you will get the one ranked highest on the list. You will also be put on waiting lists for the grammars, and usually you can then find some information about where you are on the waiting list.

MrsSteptoe, have you opened the Wine yet? Otherwise I fear for your cat....

Willemdefoeismine · 23/10/2013 17:33

I wonder if they've passed more because there's more attrition for WCGS possibly?

I think your philosophy is quite right Shaq!

I think it's quite possible they're doing them alphabetically MrsSteptoe....hang on in there.....

Sensible idea, Ladymuck, alas no. As for the cat - haven't got one, so the neighbourhood moggies had better watch out.

Although I suppose I could break out the Nerf guns and take aim at the platoons of pigeons that congregate hereabouts.

Apparently there has been a glitch and WCGS will have to resend some emails tomorrow (to those who haven't got them already).

I appreciate that email glitches are probably out of the control of the admissions staff at the school, but if they're weren't working quite so close to the wire.... Sympathies with anyone still awaiting an email.

Just big hugs to all affected by this , I know the force will be with you , fingers crossed

Heaven forbid that they might stay later today to try to ensure that everyone gets their email on the same day. stomps off with a bad grace Thanks to all who are sympathetic - I can't keep posting this stuff on Facebook, most of my friends aren't parents and won't understand x

How agonising for you, MrsSteptoe (and any other parents who've suffered courtesy of the 'glitch') - good luck for today and hope that you get a 'ping' from WCGS in your inbox as soon as school opens...

Report
MrsSteptoe · 24/10/2013 09:01

And the wait starts...

Report
Ladymuck · 24/10/2013 09:14

Even by my standards it will be too early for wine. Hope that the wait is short.

Failed.

Sorry to hear that MrsSteptoe Sad

What other options are you considering? Sutton?

Report
Willemdefoeismine · 24/10/2013 10:48

Oh I'm sorry Sad. Hope you can try to rally DS to try for SGS. A couple more weeks might make all the difference....worth a shot?

I think we are now going to give Sutton a miss. He's failed Wilson's and Wallington, and given the numbers that Wallington DID pass, and the fact that all his practice papers with his tutors have taken a bit of a downturn, I think he needs to just focus on the independent schools -- he and we are going to get too stressed.
I think there's only so much rejection one ten-year-old can take.

Report
Willemdefoeismine · 24/10/2013 10:55

I see your point......It is very stressful even for those who pass so, can fully understand where you're coming from - and if you've got to go thro' the same thing in January with the independent schools, that is an awful lot to contend with...

The irony is that in a year's time this will all seem irrelevant...
