On several ocassions we have had commendation letters home from the school, stating they will be added to DD's school file.  Some for personal acheivements for a specific piece of work, or for being in some extra curricular activity like a drama production.
Is this much of an advantage when it comes to UNI applications? Or will stuff done during the lower school years be pretty irrelevant by then?

speaking as someone who has had to write reports and references for Y11 tutor group in the past -

it will all be there as evidence when whoever is head of year/careers at the time she leaves has to write references for her - bear in mind this may not necessarily be someone who knows her really well, could be someone fairly new to the school - so yes, it is relevant - being a do-er, a joiner-in, going the extra mile, having an excellent attendance/punctuation record etc all shows what calibre of person you are, and it's about more than just grades on paper (especially with ever more competition for places on courses)
