Brace Yourself for Indy Ref 2

Now given the EU referendum result, it's guaranteed. I can almost hear the sounds of Sturgeon celebrating from here.

So we have not only 2 years of protracted negotiations with UK and the EU to get through, we have an almost immediate resurrection of the Indy Ref calls and more years of divisive campaigning hell.

Junker is an unelected duck of the highest order. I'm sure him an NS got on well.

Lass Grin phew! Grin

H and I were talking about this last night.

Re May / Sturgeon / Brexit / IndyRef2 etc.

I (hope) the SNP will see sense.

He thinks they will just carry on over the cliff, roadrunner style, and that we will have Ruth Davidson as First Minister in 5+ years.

I certainly wish NS would concentrate on Education, Named Person, Economy etc rather than scooting off World Leader style all the time. It is very tiresome. I felt quite embarrassed to see her sucking up to Junker.

If NS has had a 'good' meeting with May and has 'got what she wanted' then why is she still hell bent on IndyRef II (this time it's personal)

A teeny, tiny, miniscule part of me might just on a good day have been possibly open to at least being willing to consider the possibility that Sturgeon really has Scotland's best interest at heart as opposed to blindly and dogmatically chasing independence at any cost.

How deluded of me.

It's like they had two different conversations. May saying that Scotland is in the UK and will be out. NS still saying (despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary) that Scotland can be out of the UK and in EU.

Bet she is fizzin at all this attention being diverted away from her, but then again, she has got fuck all that anyone wants to hear.

And May has fucked Labour for the foreseeable too if she can deliver on any of what she said in her speech,

We live in strange and interesting times.

Nicola Sturgeon saying indyref2 could be next year BBC

Can someone explain the statistics to me

62% Remain was overwhelming yet 55% saying no to independence was a slim majority, I mean that's a difference of 7%.....

Op :

Am braced..

I was up to high doh at the Scottish indyref but I have catastrophised to such an extent that I am at present calm and resigned to whatever happens.

No me either, the arguments the nationalists didn't really want independence never made sense to me, I'm sure they'd back their own rhetoric, we'd already be independent and in the economic doldrums if they'd gotten their way last time, not sure why they'd suddenly see sense.

I don't think she's too canny without trade deals either. Just won't call it until the polls are showing a solid 60%+ in favour I'd guess.

And I know someone who just wrote to Swinney to ask to not be involved / change their NP. As their given Named Person is someone they have previously formally complained about and they are worried about a grievance. They got a NO in reply and some standard leaflets. Shock

without trade deals in place
I think it's partly she is realising she wont get them (despite the gladhanding) and waiting will only make that clearer, and partly that she now believes her own BS (which ALL of them fall prey to in the end, tbf).

She has roped in the poor to vote for her as she's convinced them that SNP are socialist and will help them. Except their policies do the opposite. Free meals for children that don't need them, underspend poverty budget while campaigning about people having to use food banks, wasting money converting signs to gaelic when about 3% of the population speak it and so on. They make me sick.

Yes, it's terrifying isn't it, Scotland will vote independence due to political factors despite every economic indication because of this awful Brexit result. Some people are saying Sturgeon is too canny to call indyref 2 without trade deals in place - I wish I had confidence

We're being hung out to dry.

It looks very much as if the English politicians are waking up to the fact that Scotland costs money - money they could do with using to dig out of the very big hole they got into. So I predict indyref 2 with no assurances from EU, no trade negotiations with England and they'll still win anyway because of everyone Scottish being terribly brave and resourceful, but tired of oppression etc. etc. Sad. We just need to stay here long enough to get through DS's education which is another 10 years.

I was so sickened and so was DH that we ended up messaging "friend" and ultimately deleted him and the other person I wasn't supposed to delete. I don't want that disgusting stuff coming into my house anymore. They should be ashamed of themselves.

it's loathsome, sure those expats will be flocking back to buy second homes in Scotland when the economy is in the doldrums for years after independence. Based on last time any remaining anti-independence voters will be accused of the full tapestry of vices! Rather than being people that love Scotland but think it's best off in the UK...

Report
WankersHacksandThieves · 02/07/2016 20:42

Just seen a FB post by Expats for Scottish Independence which was shared by someone I'm not allowed to delete... basically saying that since proportionally more Scots were killed and injured in WW1 than other nations we should support independence. Just how fucking low are these people going to sink?

Edinburgh really is lovely. I think that one of the things that makes it lovely is people live in the city centre. There are even flats on Princes Street, not many it's true, but a few and every other street in the centre has loads of residential property. It's really quite amazing for example that most of the property around say the Usher Hall and the Lyceum theatre is residential.

I do love the area - must check out this cupcake bakery! Edinburgh is the only city I love, if we have to move somewhere busier it'll be countryside and a commute.

Well my current city is like one of those little areas - i can drive across it in about 7 minutes flat :) I'm no longer used to the hustle and bustle.
