My husband seems bothered about my job?

I work as a cleaner in the mornings which I know isn't the most glamorous job but I am not qualified to do anything else, and I don't mind it really as we have a good team and a good laugh and it pays the bills and ensures my LO is fed and healthy! My husband is in a high profile job because he has several degrees (I have qualifications but it doesn't get me anywhere in life to be honest). And he is always telling me I need to get another job in an office or somewhere that isn't "dirty" and to earn more money so we can move on with our life etc. I asked him does my job bother you and he said no but he'd rather me do a position that is highly paid! I feel like rubbish to be honest to think that my job seems to be affecting him and he hasn't even told his family who lives far away that I work because he is ashamed to tell them I clean for a living! I said at least I'm working, not on benefits so why does it matter?! I said if he doesn't like it then go with someone who is more suited to his needs! Maybe immature but am I in the wrong for not doing any better than poxy cleaning? Sad

Ask him who will be doing the childcare when you get your highly paid job. Will he be going part time to ensure your child is taken care of/picked up from school etc? Who will cover sick days when you are in the boardroom?

If you’re satisfied that you’re contributing equally to the family via income AND childcare then frankly, it looks like his attitude is born of snobbery rather than any desire to see you fulfilled.

When I was 18-23 I worked as a classroom assistant. My husband used to say it wasn't a proper job and made me feel like I should be working in Life Assurance/a bank like him (snooze!). Then I became a teacher and he used to complain that I did nothing in the holidays while he was working hard as a lawyer. Then I became a SAHM and he had zero respect for that whatsoever. Then I went back PT at a 6th form college and he complained about the quality of the children I was teaching. Are you seeing a pattern here? It's not you. It's not the job. It's him. I reckon you could get a job at NASA and he would complain.

He's wrong for undermining you
You're making money and you're happy
He sounds like a dick
