Am really upset.

Just been told DC4 may be breech, am terrified of hospitals / c-sections etc...

I just rang her and shes saying 'ooh your following in your mothers footsteps, my first 3 were great births but 4 was awful, i had so many problems'

My sisters nearly died FFS!

so im ringing her for reassurance and she starts putting allsorts in my head.

then shes saying 'statistically 4th 5th, 6th births are always more dangerous'

I just stopped listening and then said I had to go.

What kind of person says that to someone about to give birth to their 4th?!

before i got off the phone I actually (for once!!) spoke up and said that it wasn't helpful and thats when she went all funny with me and started spouting statistics.

Am i being oversensitive??

im finding her really hard work lately :(

Please don't worry too much about the CS. I was really worried about having one too but after a long, crappy labour I had my wee one by EMCS and it was a really positive and calm experience. I'd be happy to talk with you about it if you want to PM me.

You are well within your rights to feel a bit sensitive, you're just about to have a baby. I wonder if your mum is trying to help but has forgotten how vulnerable this stage can make you feel, especially if its not going to plan? Can you talk to her about this?

Look into optimal fetal positioning - the techniques are appropriate if your baby is already breech or not (i.e. it won't turn a head-down baby into a breech baby)

Unless your mother is a healthcare professional she knows nothing. Quoting stats from the Daily Mail (or wherever!) out of context - no, sorry. Take a deep breath and share your concerns with your doctor/consultant, they should be able to make everything feel a lot less grim.

Fwiw, I had quite a few scans with my DCs and they were both zipping about in there until the very last minute - there's still time!

As to the why, I never managed to work out in what way my mum thought she was helping . . .

How far gone are you Totoros? There may stilll be time for baby to turn round! I'm trying to be positive for you, I don't think anyone has given me any statisitcs or anything like that. Even if they did I still know that all pregnancys are different! The most my MIL has shared with me about birth etc is "by the time you get round to your 4th they just fly out!" And, "after the birth, when you go for a pee, you can do wonders with a shower head! It's easier to aim than a bidet" :o And my mum hasn't really said anything to be honest. Hope it all goes well for you anyway :) xxx

Nope! You're not being oversensitive - my mum was exactly the same ALL THE WAY THROUGH my pregnancy!

She told me I had the same narrow hips as my dad's mum, and my dad had to be delivered with forceps - she also told me (and sent me articles on the subject) that my sister's baby had shoulder dystocia while being born and that I would probably have the same problem with my baby due to my narrow hips! I had split from my husband at 4 mths pregnant and was having a hard time with him - so she thought it was a good idea to send me an article from the Mail about Social Services taking babies/kids into care because their separated parents argued too much! As if I didnt have enough to deal with!

She used to send me all sorts of articles and links to websites about health and pregnancy problems - in the end I had to ask her to stop as it was depressing me even more! I think she genuinely thought she was being helpful! God! So, no, you're not alone!
