Baby jogger or mountain buggy: all-terrain pushchair recommendations please

While travelling internationally recently our pushchair was damaged by the airline. It's a brand you can't get parts for or replace in the UK, and after a lot of back and forth they have offered to replace it with something similar. After looking through their supplier list, we've shortlisted the following two:

  • Baby Jogger Summit X3

  • Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle

Does anyone have any experience to share about these?

Alternatively, does anyone have any recommendations for brands available in the UK that meet our requirements: price range £450 - £550, all-terrain with 3 large wheels, and a large storage basket (Out and About Nipper was excluded for that reason). We do not need it to be compact as we already have an Oyster Zero Gravity that lives in our car, the primary purpose for this is for dog walks in the countryside and longer distance walks.

Thanks!

Not sure if this will be useful to you OP but I had the original 3 wheeler Land Rover buggy and it was fab. Very sturdy, could go everywhere from sandy beaches to muddy walks, grass, etc. They don't make it anymore but I think they do parts and I see you can find secondhand ones. I would.

Unfortunately we aren't able to source anything ourselves, the airline insurer purchases a new product and sends it to us directly so we are a bit limited!

I think the Thule Urban Glide is meant to be good.

Apparently it's outside of the price range they will cover, I also looked at the uppababy ridge and that was too high also 😔. Because they source direct from the brand they can't buy anything at discount or outlet for older versions of anything either. It's proving challenging!

Ohh that's great thank you - so you'd go for the summit over the urban jungle in that case?

We had a Baby Jogger Summit years ago so I have no idea what the quality is like now, but it was fabulous for use on rough terrain. The one handed fold made it very easy to put up and down and the wheels could be easily released.

And the hood was massive so really blocked out the sun.

Hopefully someone with more recent experience will be along shortly.

I replaced my mountain buggy terrain with a summit. Best decision ever. Much bigger basket, canopy, lye flat function and the option to fix the front wheel. It folds easily but is heavy to lift but not push.

I have a Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle that I keep at my parents place in the mountains. It's been all over the place off road and up mountainsides. It has a huge seat, supposedly lasts until 5 years old if necessary. My child seems very comfy and naps well in it. I would recommend it for off road. I have also run with it quite happily.

I do find the folding mechanism a bit of a pain when you have cold hands, and it doesn't fold up that small, if you have to get it in and out of a car boot often.

I haven't tried the other brand but have also heard good things. I bought this with all the extras from someone in the village for £35 (bargain!) so never actually shopped around for an off road pram just checked the reviews of this one!

We got a baby jogger secondhand and I've been so impressed by the suspension! We've taken it some proper offroad walks and it's held up so well.

I just replaced a much loved baby jogger summit x3 and am horrified to find that the latest design has removed the red locking safety strap from the seat.

This means no more one handed fold mechanism, the buggy can fold up by accident when you are lifting a child out and the seat wobbles about all over the place when the buggy is moving instead of being rocksteady like the old design. I am really hacked off. The hood is also much smaller so less summer sun coverage and the seat hardly reclines at all.

I hope they bring the original design back soon, what were babyjogger thinking?!?

We had a mountain buggy urban jungle and loved it! It was very sturdy, the seat was huge so DC fit in it until nearly 10 (additional needs) and it easily went over anything. Only thing is it’s quite bulky when folded and heavy so a bit of a pain to get in/out of the car but I otherwise loved mine! It was an older one so had a different folding mechanism but the newer ones do have a one hand fold. We flew with ours quite a few times, while the hood did pop off on one side it was easy enough to put back in (though airline did loose out cup holder). Always found the basket to be a good size, we always could fit a backpack/coats/wellies in. When we went to Disney world we got everything in the basket for the day nicely too
