We are moving from London to Edinburgh with our 1 and 3 yr olds. How can I prepare the 3 year old ? I have started talking about our new house and have shown him photos. We move in 3 weeks. Any tips really welcome.

How about asking him to choose something for his new bedroom?

Or Take a photo of a Teddy/cuddly toy and post it to him (in London) with a letter saying something like "Hi I'm your new teddy called xxxx I live in your new house and I can't wait for you to come and play" then make sure same teddy is in his new bedroom or wherever waiting to welcome him when he arrives.

yes, think you are right. sadly for them we are moving to a house with no garden so they will become house cats.

When you get in the new house, I would put the cat, still in the cage, in the room where s/he will sleep and let catty settle before opening the carry case. Favourite treat food would be nice too.

Thanks Mama G. I also have 2 cats and you're right - I am MORE worried about them ! Have just spoken to the vet nurse at length about what i can do to make their 8hr car journey more bearable !

Make sure his toys/books/some spare clothes go with you and not the removal van so he can have his own things as soon as you are there.

We moved when our baby was 6 moths so a bit easier. He just wanted food and a boob.

TBH I probably worried more about the cat.
