Any recent experience with Habitat furniture?

We need a new bed and I've seen one on the Habitat website which I like and is in the right price range. However I'm a bit worried about quality now they're basically part of Argos. Has anyone got any recent experience?

Is there anywhere else I should be looking which fits into the gap I'm hoping exists between IKEA (we're upgrading from that) and made.com (too expensive)?

I've just bought a bookcase and a table and chairs from them (3 weeks ago). Nicely designed, expected quality for the prices, delivered on time.

Gosh I think habitat is much fancier than made.com. I'd be v wary of made, I really like some of their stuff, but had a set of chairs from there that literally broke, and a coffee table I love the look of but has scratched v easily. By contrast, I know people with stuff bought in habitat in the 90s still going strong - but I don't know if there's been a big change in their manufacturing recently. Certainly a few years ago we looked at some stuff in their storeroom and it seemed good in person.

I think there can be a big 'leap' in brands: there's IKEA, then there's loads of other crappy flat pack that isn't as good because they don't have the economies of scale, then there's much more expensive furniture. I like habitat, and west elm, but I think both can be pricey: I love Made for the look but would be wary about quality and I've heard terrible things about customer service.

@leakymcleakleak I agree about 90s habitat, and have one of their rugs which is a hand me down from family and still going strong. They went bust a few years back though and are now part of the Sainsburys-Argos conglomerate. Made is more expensive so I naively assumed higher quality.

I really just want a bed that doesn't sway with DH's snoring in the wind and looks ok without having to wipe out my savings Sad

Habitat today is not the same as habitat from the past. They went bust a few years ago and the name was bought by Argos/Sainsbury’s - but they are just a very budget shop now.

Made is very low quality and terrible customer care IME. Habitat great! I have bought a few bits including an ex display dining table and it’s all brilliant.

I think three is a gap in the market. I was looking for furniture recently. Wanted something other than IKEA. Not super expensive but ok quality. It’s all cheap and nasty or super expensive. There are lots of places selling a certain look - that very traditional, cottage look - but very hard to find anything else that is mid range.

I've just bought some clothes rails and a bookshelf from Habitat at Argos. Perfectly good quality - feel sturdy and no problems putting them together. Delivered next day too.

I've got some bits of freestanding bathroom furniture from Habitat. Both currently still on sale, though I bought them from a neighbour who decided she needed even more storage. My neighbour had already assembled them, so I can't vouch for how hard they were to put together but I can say that they look really good and feel very solid.
