Best mould killer?

I have a lovely kitchen in a 200yr old cottage with thick stone walls. In the summer things are fab! In the winter cooking is a bloody nightmare!

Walls are very cold and steam is hot. Windows open and extractor fan is on but i still get condensation patches in 2 corners of the kitchen. Smack in the middle is the hob.

So which mould remover is the best to use so i can paint again?

Thick bleach on a paint brush - genius tip!

Used hg in my shower in the silicone, first try it looked like nothing happened so did three applications and next day all blackness was gone! Brilliant.

Ive just dabbed some neat bleach on to some patches by the window.

It's a very specific smell like musty and dirty but i cant really compare it to anything? Sorry not much help.

I know we get it behind our drawers which doesnt often look like usual mould just a dusty coating but the smell gives it away.

What do you find it smells of? We had a mould problem which I think we've sorted out with a dehumidifier, but the sitting room smells very slightly of cigarettes. It's not mould I'm smelling is it? I have visions of it growing under the carpet. Ugh.

We have used Ronseal 6 year anti mould paint, hoping it does what it says on the tin. We're about 12 months in now and so far so good. Washed walls with a diluted bleach first.

Definitely HG mould remover. Sprayed it once about 2 years ago and its never come back.

Follow up with alkali resisting primer before you paint.

Ooh the paint brush and bleach thing sounds a great idea.im going to try that one!

You will definitely use.the hg.stuff i was amazed by it. Its great in showers n stuff too.

A tip I read on here - dip a paintbrush in thick bleach, brush on the mould, leave to dry (don't rinse). So easy and works better than the spray bottles.

Ill try bleach now on tiny bits by the window and ive just googled HG and for a £5 its worth a try! Aiming to repaint in summer so ill also put block on it.

HG mould cleaner from Homebase or Lakeland is amazing I cannot wait it highly enough

Hg mould cleaner is great too. B&q or yorkshire trading do it.

I'd be interested in a recommendation on the paint if anyone has one?

Also, bicarbonate of soda is good for grease on cookers.

Any bleach will do the job for you. Cillit bang is just expensive bleach and doesn't even clean a 2p coin, like it advertised in old ads.
I was bored some time ago and did an experiment, cillit bang in one cup, cola in another. Guess which one won? 😀

Bleach definitely. Having lived in a few mouldy army quarters I feel unreasonably qualified in this area . Just wipe the area (I always used neat bleach) leave it to dry and then paint over it. It never grew back.

Kilrock, you can get it cheap in Home Bargains. Its excellent.

Bleach mixed with bicarb in a paste .dab on the wall and leave then use a slightly damp cloth to take off. Repeat . Then paint when wall is 100% dry like the summer with the paint that blocks the mould.
