How old is your house?

And what are the benefits of it and it's negative sides?

Would you buy that age of property again?

I live in an Edwardian semi

Pros - gorgeous high ceilings and lovely period features

Cons - no off road parking!! And a bit of damp

I would happily buy this age house again

Ooh Ruhr - that's pretty fancy! Ours is an Edwardian semi.

Very private as set back from road. Lots of original features. It was a very grand house in its day.

Lots of wildlife - owls, badgers, deer. Depending on the wind direction I can often hear the sheep in nearby fields!

Cons - single glazed windows, though original and beautiful, and poxy kitchen but we're sorting that out.

Late 70s design, built by a builder for his own family in the early 80s. Great site with fantastic views, superb build quality (now needing some updating), big rooms and huge windows, south facing, sensible layout, large cellars, off road parking.

However, it's not beautiful from the outside; it looks like a very dull bungalow. There is a lot of spar dash that we are gradually removing and getting rendered. It could be described as characterless, but as someone upthread says, it suits the way we live and most people seem to like the interior.

Built in 1929 - high ceilings, thick walls, a beautiful original fireplace. Cons are: no off street parking, dodgy ancient drainage, kitchen and bathroom are a flat roof extension added in the sixties.

80 ish years

Pros huge rooms, high ceilings, fireplaces and chimneys, big windows, drive, massive private garden, original lighted doors.. our main pro is the fact that we have 2 receptions rooms - having these has changed our life so much for the better! Most of this age houses seem to have had both rooms knocked in to one.. I'm so glad this hasn't as we'd have re built the wall!

Can't think of any cons but we only bought it in May. I adore it!

Actually I'd quite like to turn the garden 45° to the south but you can't have everything :)

182 years old, as it was built in 1835....love it to bits. Had a huge Edwardian end terrace prior to that, which I also loved. The 1835 house is let out, as we currently live abroad in a 'wrapped' 1920s/30s house, which has been extended and modernised. You can tell the original age from the narrow hall, the steep stairs, the cellar walls etc, but it feels very modern.

Roll on moving back to Cornwall.

I rent rather than own, but our house was built in the late 1890s. Downsides are a tiny kitchen and bathroom and a tendency to damp, upsides are lovely high ceilings and not being a shoeboxy newbuild so having actual.space for storage.

Palomb it's so nice to hear that someone else prefers separate rooms! Everyone thinks we are mad for not knocking our kitchen through to our back room. While it would be a lovely huge open space I like to shut the door on the kitchen when it's not being used and it's a big enough kitchen anyway.

Angels The one we currently rent in Belgium is an open plan kitchen/sitting room/small sitting room, all demarcated by different paint and flooring. However, it means being tidy! In my own place in Cornwall, I have separate receptions and a kitchen diner, so I can close the door on the mess, or just to keep one room tidyish. It also means that if dh wants to watch TV in the snug, I can go into the sitting room or study and curl up with a book. In Belgium, I have to go upstairs to avoid listening to whatever he is watching.

New build, energy efficient and well insulated so heating bills are low.
Although it's rather original in its design, I feel it lacks character.
Also build rather quickly so minor cosmetic things annoy me.

130 years old, love it, totally unique.
Could never ever live in a new build.
