How often have you moved house?

I have been in my home for just over 3 years and have started contacting estate agents to value it for sale. Our reasons to move are that we would prefer a livelier area, and we plan to move to a nearby market town - even though I absolutely love our house.

Before this house we lived in a house for 3 years, and before that a flat for 3 years before selling.
Do I sound like I'm moving too much and getting itchy feet?

Wow some of you have moved loads and loads! I wasn't counting rentals at uni and family homes in my OP - but I guess I have then lived in 10 homes in 33 years.

We have an estate agent coming to value our house tomorrow - so it may well be 1 more move for me!

DH on the other hand had moved about (counts) 8 times from the age of 16 (out of home) to the age of 21 when we got together...a series of dodgy flat shares/rented rooms etc.

I moved out of my parents home aged 18, into a rented flat with (now) DH.

We had that for a year and moved back in with my parents aged 19.

We bought our house 6 months later, aged 20. Still here now aged 30. So a total of 3 moves in 12 years. Next move will be the big one, next year hopefully.

Bought my flat age 21 and still live in it age 29. It has doubled in price since I bought it but so has everything else. As much as I'd love to move it is totally unaffordable.

5 times in 10 years (since I was 18), I'm browsing rightmove regularly to see if there is anything better around!

17 times in 30 years. Exh was in the forces and we were constantly on the move. Hopefully settled now and no plans to move again until I'm too old to manage the stairs

Just counted - 19 since leaving home at 18. Rented for years. The last place we owned for 8 years, a do up. In current place for 2 years and feel quite satisfiedI don't think we can realistically get anything better and so will improve it over the years.

As a couple DH and I have lived in 6 houses over the last 21 years. This hasn't included a major relocation, just local moves. We love our current house.., I would say forever house except it could be unmanageably big at some point in the distant future. We have moved up the housing ladder so have followed a path from two up two down terrace to big Edwardian detached. I think this is maybe less feasible than it used to be though.

As a student I can recall 7 rentals. I coincidentally also lived in 6 family homes with my parents. There have also been a couple of stints of a few months abroad - don't know if they count as moves or not!

8 times in 25 years between owned and rented. Plus an inherited property which we rented out and then sold to buy a furnished student let for DS+3 tenants. So a total of 10.

Regular moving means you de-clutter religiously. I've kept very few things for sentimental reasons-all the kids clothes and books were passed on and I took photos of their drawings/birthday cards and chucked the originals!

Apart from furniture (freestanding and interchangeable) our life fitted into 40 boxes last time, some of which hadn't been opened for three moves. I've also had the fun of designing five kitchens over the years!

We've been here the longest yet (7yrs) and I'm starting to get itchy feet, too! Mainly because we've repurposed some rooms, like a bath to walk-in shower and playroom bedrooms to study bedrooms as the kids grow up, and living around that work is really annoying. I usually try to do everything before we move in.

Quite frankly I enjoy it and if you look on a house as a commodity to suit your needs at the time and to sell as necessary you probably will move a few times.

I can't remember as moved many times when renting from 18-25.
Bought my first flat in 2002 when I was 26 then moved into my current house when I was 28 and I'm now 40. Would love to move further up the ladder and buy a bigger house but it's not possible as we're in London and as we all know prices are crazy. Bought this house for 217k in 2005 and now worth 600k. We are going to do a loft conversion so that will help

11 times in 18 years as an adult.
Divorce/rented etc.
1st brought house 3 bed masionette stayed 5 years.
2nd 3 bed 20s semi 8 years
3rd (our forever home) 4 bed Victorian semi. 4 months.

I'm never moving again. I got to the area I wanted to be in, next to my daughters school, within walking distance to countryside and city living (opp directions) and 8 mins walk to my uni.
I'm so very happy Smile

17 houses since leaving home at 18, so 20 years.
Probably as many before leaving home too. Bit fed up of it now if I'm honest. Always said I wouldn't move the DC as much I did but they're still in primary school and on their 8th house and we'll definitely have another move before secondary.

Since leaving home at 18 and after spending first year of University in halls, I've lived at 11 different addresses. Lived in my current house for 12 years. Desperate to move again but stamp duty puts it more or less out of the question.

This will be my 15th move since birth, 4th in 7/8 years. Doubt this will be our last move as we're renting.
You'd think by now we'd be pros at get rid of stuff before moves, but the amount of boxes we have packed is at an all time high!

15 times including moving countries five times. Been in current house over five years which is longest I've been in any house other than the house I grew up in which my dad still lives in.

Before I moved out on my own, I had moved 8 times.

Since being on my own, I have only moved twice. Moved into a rental while DH and I built our house, and then moved to said house. We have no plans of moving anytime soon, as our house was designed to fulfill all our foreseeable future needs.

The thought of moving with several children makes me clench.
