Planning to paint the living room in our new house this weekend. I was thinking a pale soft grey, dh not so sure. He wants cream :(

We don't want a feature wall and can't afford wallpaper.

neckless I know, especially as my husband explained to a friend that we'd just had the room painted in 'elephant's trunk or trotter or something like that - its just beige' Grin

Elephant's breath is a hilarious name. I once nearly painted ds room bright orange just cos the paint name was'bongo jazz'

We have Elephants Breath (like a 'greige') on all the walls below the picture rail (about three quarters of the wall) then white above and white ceiling. Have 2 alcoves either side of fireplace with white cupboards / built in shelving and those walls are Plummett (quite a dark grey). Have got floral-y curtains with those colours and yellow, then little bits of yellow in cushions / pictures etc to lift the room. Really like it.

I'm just decorating mine too.

I have chocolate brown carpet and suite, this wallpaper (but inverted colours) on the chimney breast and then on the remaining walls I have this but a lighter beigey colour.

So far so brown/beige - however. I am getting green curtains and lampshade (a light green, not seen actual colour yet but have it in mind)

I've then got some tealights from Ikea which inspired the green - there are 4 and 2 are white, one is green and one is grey. So they'll look nice on my fireplace.

Thank you. It looks all the better for being able to wash off small people's finger marks. Grin

It's a beautiful colour, calamitously. Looks lovely with your floor & rug

One wall is mocha..one peach and one yellow. It's like being in a neapolitan ice cream.

There are several lovely colours on the heritage colour chart. We got it in the wipe-clean diamond matt rather than the chalky heritage finish, but it still looks lovely.

Thank you so much, CalamitouslyWrong :) Really love it, not surprised it's heritage one.

Yes. It's dulux heritage sky blue (in diamond matt finish). You can get it from the dulux decorator centre. FIL (who did the decorating) said it was really easy to paint with too. Great coverage.

CalamitouslyWrong - not OP here, but this is the kind of teal that I'm really after for our soon-to-be-renovated lounge! Do you remember much what paint you've used (if you did)?

'mizzle' in north facing room. Have stuff of all different colours in there and all seem to go quite surprisingly well. Woodwork cupboards and shelves are dulux jasmine white.

Would take a picture but room is covered in jigsaw pieces....

Dark grey, Farrow and Ball Downpipe. It looks lovely in the evenings with lots of lamps lighting the room and casting shadows.

We have very few plastered walls, but the bits that are plastered are F&B Elephants Breath (seen here behind the Elephants Breath bookshelf

Just decorating mine at the moment and chosen a pale blue (Dulux mineral mist). I'm pleased with it. It's a sunny room though, my curtains are a deep red, floor will be wooden and other accessories will warm it up a bit. My friend has a similar blue but with blue curtains and a grey carpet her room feels a bit cold and gloomy to me so I think you need to be a bit careful with blues and greys.

We have dulux light french grey, with white ceilings and warm-ish coloured laminate, and blue sofas. I love it. It feels really calm and elegant IMHO.

What kind of house do you have? High ceilings or low ones? Beams or cornices? Old or new? How is is furnished?

I think different colours go well in different houses and with different furniture styles. I think colours like greys go well with high ceilings and lots of natural light. Creams are nice with lower ceilings. Deeper colours look nice in Victorian or Georgian feeling homes. Modern houses can take loads of different colours depending on how you furnish them.

My house is very old with beam so deep colours would be too dark and bright colours distract too much from the lovely wood and stone. My lounge is painted a very deep cream from the 1829 period range: Beauvais Cream.

We've got pale grey, painted this year. I like it, as it is very restful. Other colours are yellow, navy, linen and charcoal in the room, with a wood floor, but I think it would blend well with most colours as a neutral.

Don't know if this counts as a feature wall, but mine's purple and beigey kind of colour. I love the purple, especially in Winter.

We have grey and purple. Still not sure about the grey but this our first time we've been able to decorate and not live in magnolia.

We've had Dulux Willow Tree on our walls for a few years now, which is a pale green. It's very calming.
In fact, we've just painted dd's the same.

dreamy peach, which is a soft light orange, i wanted a red sofa but couldn't get one at the time so got a burnt orange 4 seater fabric sofa, with rich tea biscuit carpet beige with a fleck and the same light beige curtains, i have a picture rail too so above it, is just white same as the rail and the ceiling!
