Hi all, new here. I just don't know what to do about sending my kids back to school or permanently home schooling them. Is it safe do you think regarding COVID-19? Would appreciate your views. Thank you in advance

Definitely. Mine were in from early June, and we had excellent hime learning provision, but kids need company!

Whilst I commented above that 100% sending my children, and still have that view, the reality of entering the autumn term and the usual kiddie lurgies that brings with it has hit home - one child gone down with what appears to be a nasty cold but due to new persistent cough we’ve all had to get tested and self isolate for now. I am hopeful will be negative result as low cases where we are but any thoughts of school restarting bribing other normality including with work arrangements are naive, I fear the next 5 months are actually going to be more disruptive from a work perspective than the last 5 months! I dread to think how many times we may have to drop everything whilst getting tested and waiting results etc

Yes, I want him to have an education and I have no interest in home schooling. Can't say he's excited to go back though

No I am not because:

My child has some anxiety about school and I have no hope of the school helping with it.

My child will be in year 6 and the school has been terrible so although I want him to socialise he has 3 really terribly behaved kids in his class and the school can't handle them. I have only realised the extent of this due to homeschooling and I feel as a parent I did not pick up how bad the school environment was.

Also .. he loves online learning as we purchased some zoom lessons and loves the lack of bullying and interruptions.

Basically the school is not great so I can't trust them with covid and need to assess things later on.

Obviously I need to expect to pay some fines or decide to homeschool on a more permanent basis.

100% yes! For all of our mental health.
They need to get back to school, proper learning, their mates and routine. Home schooling was a disaster here and they really struggled in lockdown despite our best efforts.
DDs went back for a few weeks before summer (Y1 and nursery) and loved it. DD1 starts reception in sept and is very excited. DD2 hasn't seen most of her friends since March so can't wait.
Plus. We have to work! Both furloughed for majority of lockdown and back now but without usual options of childcare the summer holiday and juggling shifts has been horrible.
Cases are very low in our area also.

Home school for us was a shit show and the only thing any of us learned was that we will never home school.

My primary age kid is going back. She needs it (ASD), I'm concerned as I am asthmatic and the lack of safety thanks to the imbeciles in government but she needs that routine back.

Yes - mine went back into the keyworker vulnerable bubbles as one of them really wasn't coping with the whole situation during lockdown.

I've provided DD with as much structure as possible but she needs a proper education environment. It's been really hard on her and she's desperate to start school.

It's a moot point anyway, all children must be back in school in September I believe.
If you don't want to send yours back you'll have to officially withdraw and homeschool them; they lose their school place too.

Yes. My kids and I are both counting the hours. The cost to their mental health of them being at home any longer would be way higher than the infinitesimally small physical risk of being at school.

If you want to properly home school then this might be a good time to do it. But I wouldn't not send primary aged children. The risks to then are so low and as long as you are keeping your distance from other adults and the rate of transmission in your area is low, then risks to everyone are low (but never no risk).
