Is Michael Rosen right? Is the sample SATS online the actual test

He's just posted that the KS1 test sample on the gov website is the actual test they are using?!

We did ks1 paper 2 this morning. The two practice questions are the same but the actual test questions are not. We did paper 1 on Monday and the few answers I can remember are not on the sample paper.

Feenie · 20/04/2016 21:27

If you read the above link, they're reporting that a different sample paper, matching the real paper that you did, was accidentally uploaded in January.

BoGrainger · 20/04/2016 21:32

Ah ok, can't access links

Rosebud05 · 20/04/2016 21:33

Would be hilarious if it wasn't all so depressing...

Feenie · 20/04/2016 21:33

Quite!

mrz · 20/04/2016 21:44

They should just scrap it now

Feenie · 20/04/2016 21:48

They should. Bet they just try and bluster their way through it though.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/04/2016 21:48

It would give them a good excuse to scrap it.

KnotNora · 20/04/2016 23:03

Or a good way to show how well the new curriculum is working out.....

They are trying to say it doesn't matter but it does. Schools that have used it will be able to use the test results to justify higher spelling results and we know the spelling standards are some of the hardest. This is an absolute joke and schools and parents should be protesting.

It doesn't matter (in so much) as the test results aren't reported. The results are to support the Teachers Assessment and any test results that are not in line with normal classroom attainment would be disregarded.
Many people believe the government wanted to remove the Teacher Assessment element and move to "formal" externally marked testing this mess may "put a spanner in the works."
It's a shocking error but would have been much more damaging if it had been Y6 tests.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 21/04/2016 07:22

Nice to see Rosen hitching himself to a bandwagon again Grin

The error was spotted by teachers, and reporting about the leak was well underway by the time he started repeating it.

It's not a case that he was right (that suggests he was directly involved in exposing wrongdoing), more that the article -one of many - that he chose to repeat and retweet was accurate.

jennielou75 · 21/04/2016 07:25

It does matter because the moderators place great value on the tests as evidence.

G1raffe · 21/04/2016 07:31

Oh great. I've got a yr2 child.

Wonder how many people were aware though before Rosen repeated it? Bet the Government wishes he hadn't - more chance of covering the mess up that way. At least now their mess up is known about and in the open.

mummytime · 21/04/2016 07:46

I think more people follow Michael Rosen on twitter than individual teachers.

I use my twitter account to publicise things other people have found out - thats part of what its for (and I feel very proud when one of my handful of more famous followers re-tweet).

Eelus · 21/04/2016 13:49

The test might have been taken off the GOV.UK website but it's still on some of the SATS websites (the websites were you can download past SATS papers).

KnotNora · 21/04/2016 13:52

God yes lots of people handing it around on FB

OP posts:
Feenie · 21/04/2016 14:12

Are you sure, Eelus? Have checked a few but can only see original sample spelling paper (sunny, faster, group, fingers, etc), which wasn't the mistaken uploaded one apparently.

octopusrus · 21/04/2016 14:13

Does anyone have a link?

PoreofWiner · 21/04/2016 15:01

has anyone got a link or copy of the paper? i didn't even know ds was doing SATs until this morning. he's being assessed for dyslexia and we never have anough time to do any extra work at home as we both work full time and get home late. oh and he's born in august. if any child needed help it's poor ol' DS

mummytime · 21/04/2016 15:14

PoreofWiner - you are wrong - the last thing your DS needs is extra coaching - let him not do as well as he might, and it may force the school to give him extra help. In SATs exams it is always better to be just below the benchmark, than just above. Doing freakishly better is worse than not doing that well.

Ideally at year 2 the children do not know they are being assessed, and even for year 6 it shouldn't be too stressful for them (my DC all enjoyed SATs week).
