Reception Waiting Lists...

Does anyone want to join me in obsessing and fretting over the waiting list for the school they didn't get?

LA just told me that we are no. 47 on the list for ours.

Given that I'm nearly 1200 metres outside the last distance offered for last year and this is central London I'm a bit shocked.

At this point every child who had the school as a higher preference than the one they were allocated is automatically on the waiting list whether is was 1st, 2nd, 3rd or whatever choice, and today is before many people will have accepted places so I'm really shocked that I'm not 150th.

LA were also lovely and told me I could ring anytime to check DD's position on the list.

(How often a week is too often? Grin)

Let me tell you guys something persistence pays off!
Our lists re-started on 24th of July and those parents that left for school holidays early came off the lists.
Of course the may have re- joined later if they even saw the email re: list 2013 ending.
But most of the mums I've overheard are resigned to allocated schools leaving diehards like me to remain on the list. For instance on my 4th choice school I went from 20th to no.4! Only when I told my neighbour did she bother to go back onto the lists as she was 1 place behind me.
Just because there are people in front of you It doesn't mean it's their 1st choice school.
And now the children have started school parents will only swap for their most preferred school place.

Well after starting off at the heady height of 3rd and 2nd on the waiting lists, we started at our third choice school this week and never got a call about the others. I was sure we'd get in.

Nevermind, the school we're at seems fab so I'm no longer worried.

We are still in the same position as we were before the summer holidays - 6th. Our first choice school is a 90 entry so I can't believe there hasn't been any movement! We were 5th when the list first came out so at that point we were really confident of getting a place before the start of school. Just goes to show you can't go by previous years at all.

I spoke to the council this morning to find out we are still 6th and then to 1st choice school who said the reception kids don't start until next week so they won't know until then whether or not there are any "no shows". Can't believe there would ever be 6 no-shows though. DS is due to start at 3rd choice school on the 16th so once he's started there, I don't know whether we'd move him. The main incentive is distance - 3rd choice school is twice the distance of 1st choice school. Both are good schools though so it's not the end of the world.

12345Floris a thanks for the advice. I called on Monday so maybe might call tomorrow and ask them if they are still phasing the kids in and check if we are still next on the list.

That code is a smiley, by the way!

Also, remember to mention if you have siblings at the school you have applied to for the waiting list.

Hi all, am new to this site and after some advice really. My son has just started reception at our 3rd choice school. He is currently next on the list for our 1st choice and am wondering how often is deemed acceptable to see if there has been any change without making a complete nuisance of myself?

Well, its September guys, how is everyone? Has anyone else been lucky enough to get in? I think we are second, I don't ask very often now.

Report
Pyrrah · 20/07/2013 12:32

I've moved 2 places up - now at 41!

September will be the big movement especially if you're on the list for a pro-active school that rings round to see who wants to remain on the list.

There probably won't be much more movement until September but there is likely to be some movement then. You would be surprised how many parents move away or go private without bothering to tell anyone that they don't need their school place any more.

Has anyone got in recently, or moved up the list?
Do you think thats it now and there wont be much more movement :(

Didn't get any of my choices.
I was no.6 for my first choice initially then moved down to no.7,
no.5 on 20th June and now as of 9th July I'm 4th.
But I do know a few parents are moving and waiting for private schools.
For my second choice school I started at no.7 now I'm no.13
3rd choice school started at no.20 since moved up to 18
Seems anything is possible.
Though I'm not totally unhappy with allocated school I will move DS when a place becomes available!
At least his friends from nursery will be there though he is a very friendly confident child.

I know a few of us are south london but not sure about north london - hopefully someone will be able to give some advice.

It seems that locally, all other school waiting lists are seeing movement apart from ours. I'm only ringing up fortnightly now and trying to throw myself into allocated school. Had a couple of visits there and it seems lovely but the journey is a schlep.

Anyone on this thread, on a waiting list for Ashmount, Coleridge, Weston Park, Rokesly, Hargrave Park, Highgate Primary?

I am trying to find out what sort of places situation there is where I live.

(Which is Whitehall Park Conservation Area.N19)

Lozario · 03/07/2013 18:08

queen sorry you've dropped down too. Only consolation is that apparently a lot of the movement often happens in the first few weeks of term - would you be willing to move schools once term has started?

choc as far as I know you have to ring your LEA for updates but maybe it depends on your local authority.

I've just joined a list and am told we are in first place. One thing I don't know though, do we get regular uodates feom the council about our position or do they just email us if we are go up/down. Anyone know?

Anyone else had any luck?

We have slipped from first down to third, so doubt we will get in now as there has been no movement so far.

Totally gutted :(

Hi, yes it is really hard not knowing anything that is going on. The school I think are trying not to be involved at this point (maybe because we have an appeal and they don't want it to look like they are helping me- I don't really know). The head keeps talking about how there is always a lot of shuffling around in the next few months and so you never know.
The LA just completely refuse to answer anything about the waiting list. It's quite frustrating. I do know that 32 put this school as there first choice and I found the other one the other one of the two not getting a place the other day whilst chatting at pre school. She has now decided not to appeal and is just sending her daughter to the allocated school as it is a good school and she doesn't have the sibling link like we do.
