reports - input from the headteacher?

I've just received DSs reception year report (eldest child so first one I've ever seen) and was really surprised to see that about 2/3rds of it was written by the headteacher. Is this normal??

It's quite a small school (single intake years) so the headteacher does know all the children quite well but I didn't really expect to see so much from her. There are a few comments along the lines of needing support and encouragement at home as he is not very good at settling down to work, so would the headteacher's input be because they think there's a problem that needs dealing with at a higher level than teacher?

We've been told there's no cause for concern throughout the year and just assumed it was because he's quite young for the year and boys do tend to be slower to be ready for formal learning than girls anyway initially (or so I've been told).

It's not normal, but I wouldn't read too much into it.

If they have real concerns, they won't be raising them in the report - they'd invite you in for a meeting.......

I wouldn't have thought that the HT input would mean the comment is something that needs dealing with at a "higher level" than class teacher, so please don't worry about that. IMO it is more likely to be:
a) HT is a control freak and likes to have major input on reports or
b) Class teacher has been ill or has had additional family stresses of some sort and the HT has taken over some of report writing to ease the burden for him/her.

the head may have written it using the eyfs learning goals the teacher has assessed over the year.
