Hello ... am looking for some advise and/or perspective.

My daughter turned 12 yesterday and is currently 1 m 66 cm (5 ft 4.5 inches). I have checked on the national statistics growth charts and she is above the 99th percentile. She is the tallest in her class and is beginning to feel very self-conscious as it's all anyone ever mentions when they see her. In theory she has another two or three years of growth ahead of her.
I've also noticed she has really fallen arches and her feet and ankles hurt her.

Would you ask the GP to measure her and keep an eye on progress? I know there is nothing you can do about tallness but I worry there may be some underlying pituitairy gland issue (my cousin had this when he was young and he is now a strapping 6 ft 8-er - but easier to carry that off on a boy).

In covid times I don't want to waste their time - but equally I can't let it go! For perspectibe, I am 5 ft 7 and her father 6 ft - so fairly standard.

Interesting thread, my ten year old is currently just over 5'5. Very tall and completely in proportion. I'm 5'7 and dad is 6'4, so it will be interesting to see where she levels off. My elder two are: 16 years old at 5'7 and 14 years old at 5'8. I'm destined to be dwarfed by them!

@toadstool32

That's interesting *@Inadaze80* because when I looked my dd came out at 99th

You are right, sorry.
I was looking at 5'4 and forgot the half!
@Iheartbaby we were offered puberty blockers age 8 which we declined. But that wasn't specific to height no. She started puberty age 8 so early but within the realms of normal. She's 11 now and basically completed puberty, about another 4inches height left to grow according to growth plate X-ray
Thank you for the information, do most girls start to slow shortly after starting their periods

My DD is 10 (school year 6) and is 5ft 6. Four or five of the girls in her class are within 2/3 inches of her height and one is the same height. She’s always been tall and just embraces it as she can’t change it. No signs of puberty yet either.

I wouldn’t think that the OP’s daughters height would be hugely noticeable within secondary school. I hope her aches and pains ease soon.

My 12 year old is only a inch or so shorter than her 5.4 18 year old sister! I’m 5.10 so guessing the younger one will take after me!

Toadstool if her height had not started to slow do you know if there would of been anything they would of offered your dd to slow her height down.

A girl in my daughters class was like that at 12! She stopped and is now one of the shortest! Through primary she was always the tallest now at 18 she hasn’t grown much since 12.

Whoops. You are right.
Even so it still gives a projected adult height which is completely normal.

Reach i might of looked at your chart wrong, but doesn’t it show your child was 160cm at 12 , not 165

OP, your post has been niggling at me.
So I looked up my daughter's red book with the centile charts from when she was a baby.
My DD is only a couple of weeks older than yours btw.
We measured her on her birthday, early June, as is family tradition. She was 165cm.
This is 91st centile.
Projected adult height, following the 91st centile, is about 172cm - 5' 7.5".
That's really not that tall.
You have nothing to worry about.

If she is sporty get her into netball. She will grow up loving being tall!

That doesn't seem particularly tall. Looking at the UK - WHO growth chart it puts her between 75th and 91st percentile.

My DD is 18 and 6'. I am 5'9" and she was taller than me by 11.5 years.

She is proud of being tall and since you can't change it, that seems like a good attitude to me. DD was the goal shooter on the school netball team and is an amazing swimmer because she has hands and feet like shovels, I love taking her blackberry picking because she can always reach the largest juiciest fruit.

I was 5 foot 8 before the end of primary school. I had one final spurt at around 16 and grew to 5 foot 9. She may be almost done growing

I'm 5'10 and by 13 I was about 5'8 already. I was absolutely taller than almost every boy and definitely every girl, and even a lot of my teachers! I really felt self conscious as I also pretty much had the body of a woman by that age.

But I don't think anything was amiss with my growth. My mum is 5'7 and dad 6' 3. Girls grow earlier than boys. I'm my early 20s I started to appreciate my height more and now I love it. People, or maybe men is more accurate, take me more seriously, don't push me around, or make get me of their way.

That doesn't seem too tall for her age.
My DD was 5ft6 when was 11 yrs old.She was the tallest in her (quite small ) primary school and was also taller than most of the staff.
She started feeling more comfortable about her height when she started secondary school and was no longer the tallest amongst her peer group.
Now in her 20s she's 5ft8

@Christmasfairy2020 because she first started showing signs of puberty aged 8 so GP referred her and we've just continued to be seen six monthly. She's always been 99th centile since birth but now her periods have started she's predicted to stop growing in the next 18months.

First things first.

Buy arch support insoles and put in every shoe.
Buy arch support trainers we have reebok ones and have been such a life change for my dd. Also school shoes get ones with arch support and not flat if u can't then get her some insoles. We got ours from amazon. It has improved the leg pain.

My 11yo is 5'2.5 and 99th centile. She's under an endocrinologist for her height where she has annual bone xrays. She's always followed the same centile line since birth but since starting her period 6months ago her growth has slowed. She is expected to grow another 3-4 inches according to her growth plates on X-ray.
