Hi there, i was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit more about salcombe prep in southgate. i am considering enrolling my little one for reception. i have heard the head teacher for many years has left.
Anyone know how Vita et pax is? i heard it’s much smaller - also any recommendations of any other north london prep schools in and around southgate?
Thanks so much

Hi SA10, did you end end up sending your child to Salcombe? If so, are you happy with it overall?

Hello did you end up enrolling your little one to reception at Salcombe? We viewed this school recently and loved the ethos however the school itself was very small and crammed.

About Salcombe Prep, the head who has been for 9 years has left. This has nothing to do with the school but it was a personal decision. She was suddenly unwell and was unable to attend school and then she announced her resignation. The school community was not told what exactly what was wrong with her but it is not relevant I guess anyway, personal choice and privacy.

However the Cognita has appointed a new Head for the school for Sept 2021 and school has briefly introduced her to all.

About academic achievements, I would say Salcombe has a much better 11+ Grammar school destinations than any of the North London non selective Prep schools around the area. This year there was a slight dip in destinations for Grammars, but could be due to Lockdown and some parents not wanting too much pressure on the kids. There were 9 Grammar school placed secured but 6 places were taken for QE, DAO and Latymer. For Independent selective, kids got offers from Habs boys, Highgate, St Albans boy and girls this year with a scholarship for one pupil.

Some kids were pulled off at year 4 last year just so that they don’t have to do the 11+ prep. Thise went to St John’s since they have their senior school. The school does focus a lot of 11+ in year 5. Some parents don’t not want the stress.

Vita et Pax is a hidden gem. DD joined mid-year, apprehensive of leaving her old school friends behind, DH &I wanted a balanced school that would enable our child attain her potential in academics and co-curricular.
DD is now the final year, hand on heart - the school has exceeded our expectation in every way.
Wrap-around for working mums, strong & supportive teachers and ohhh...DD talks about the fab food.
Under the current Leadership, the school continues to flourish with Smile Grin confident children.

Visit Vita and see for yourself, my 2 are very happy there, there is wrap around care, before and after school and extra curricular clubs. The Head is a great leader for the school and there is a family environment. It’s not just academics, focus on the whole child which is important too

Yep definitely worth looking at Vita a hop and skip down Green Road. The head has a staff that are as enthusiastic about the academic values and while still having a school full of happy kiddies. Pastoral care does exist now. Fab clubs, morning and afternoon wrap around, great playground and activities.. what more???

We are very happy at Vita et Pax. Happy children, who can't wait to get to school everyday.
The current Head is excellent, really in control of excellent teaching standards, extra curricular opportunities etc. all reflected in the leavers destinations this year.
There is a great family feel to the school and a good community. It helps that the fees are quite reasonable vs Salcombe also 😊
