Anyone got any tips for helping nausea in the evenings?

Hi, I am about 14 weeks pregnant and just coming out of weeks of hyperemesis. I am eating again and only throwing up occasionally but I am plagued by terrible nausea in the evenings. From about 5pm onwards I just feel awful and some evenings can't face my dinner which makes it worse. If I do eat something I have to just sit still and concentrate on keeping it down. Is there somethings I should try eating during the day? Any tips or advice welcome. Thanks

I agree wholeheartedly- I am so fed up of feeling sick round the clock. Can't wait for baby to arrive in 7 ish weeks so that I remember what it's like to not feel nauseated all the bloody time. It's so wearing. Strangely enough the only time I don't feel sick is when I'm eating but eating too much makes it worse. Odd.

Thanks everyone for the replies. It seems there is no magic cure for it. I had hyperemesis on my last pregnancy too but once the vomiting stopped around 20 weeks I didn't really have this awful nausea to deal with. I definitely find tiredness makes me worse as does going too long without eating. Sometimes though it is too difficult to eat when feeling so sick.

Have you tried sucking on sweets- murray mints were a firm favourite of mine for about 6 weeks and now it's the blue wrigleys extra chewing gum. Don't worry about not eating a "proper" evening meal for a while if it makes you feel ill, just a small bowl of cereal or fruit, some toast or even nothing at all will not be harmful in the long run I don't think. But like pwcbird says, make sure you eat a little and often- my nausea is always worse if I am hungry/have low blood sugar.

Also being dehydrated makes you feel nauseous in some cases. If you have ketones present because of sickness (if you've been hyperemetic you'll know all about those!) they make you feel sick, so you don't eat or drink which in turn makes you more dehydrated and ketones therefore sickness increase. Great fun!

agree about tiredness. also keep an eye on your blood sugar levels. I craved carbs,but felt revoltingly ill within an hour of eating them.

can you get a sleep in the afternoon? i found nausea worse in the pm if i was too tired.

Melon really helped me, and posh sorbet (low sugar and high fruit, unlike the additive-stacked supermarket kind, and the cool helped my stomach) and plain steamed petit pois and sweetcorn, with plain, very thoroughly mashed maris piper potatoes. I lived on that diet for 9 weeks - anything else made me sick to even think about. Hope that helps; normal morning sickness was dire so God knows what you've had to deal with with hyperemesis. I so hope the rest of your pregnancy is easier.

I found lemonade helped me as I felt bad at the same time. Not too fizzy. Also I know everyone says it but try to eat little and often - just snack and not really a proper meal. I think a tiny amount of food helps but too much and it's worse than ever.

Hi- still struggling with nausea in the evenings at 22 weeks. I just have what I fancy still which means that my diet is limited. I find fruit and toast good. I also like taking a bath to relax and going to bed early (can't feel sick if you're asleep theory). Or just relaxing in bed with a book. Good luck

Hyperemesis sounds horrid, I never had that but the feeling of nausea is grim.

have you tried eating melon? its bland but watery to keep you hydrated, plus its a fruit which is always a bonus!
