Nursing chair - worth getting one?

First time around I found BF DD very uncomfortable no matter where I tried it/whatever position I was sat in due to stitches etc.

Now I am pregnant again (22 weeks) I am not looking forward to the painful and uncomfortable feeling from last time. I've noticed you can get nursing chair + footstool sets and wondered whether to get one.

Have any of you bought one? Think it was worth it? Notice any comfort improvement if you had stitches? Or, total waste of money?

Any advice much appreciated!

I have only used one once (at a friend's house) but boy, was it comfortable. If I could afford one and had the space, I would definitely get one!

I didn't get a special nursing chair, but have a Poang chair and stool from Ikea (the bentwood one) which is really comfortable for nursing in and half the price of the nursing chairs.

I always wanted one and never got one and now everyone I know has one and I'm so jealous I love them.

Is it worth having another one just to convince dh to buy me one?

I have fed three and although could defintly not be considered essential I still want one I would have loved one

I have one it was wonderful with DD and am planning to use it well this time round now as well. They have really come down in price since i brought mine. I have seem them for as little as £90 and they go on ebay for not bad prices either. I know you dont have to have one, but if you can treat youtrself to one, you wont regret it

I bought a big white wicker chair from IKEA which looks really nice in the nursery and is good for breastfeeding. Cost a fraction of the price of a proper breastfeeding one.

I don't know why but when I sat in one of the demo nursing chairs in Mothercare it made me feel a bit queasy with the rocking motion - might have just been the morning sickness though!

I've just got one for night feeds, DD is 6 months old. I got it off ebay where you can get them for a third of the price of the dutailier ones about £119.
Ours arrived quickly and we had to put it together but it is lovely.
We got a navy one as although it's not a traditional 'nursery' colour it is the colour of our sofa so it can be moved into the living room and not look out of place at a later date.
My one complaint about it would be that the cushions smelt strongly as if they had been sprayed with flame retardent. we had to air it and I sprayed it liberally with febreeze

I found the rocking ones made me seasick as well as being colossal, but MIL (nuts, but v generous) bought me one of these.
It is pretty comfy but tbh I mostly feed in bed or on the sofa so it's mostly useful for eg dressing her on my lap.
Re stitches, get hold of a Valley Cushion - the NCT often have them to hire/borrow

I have one, love it love it, did all night feeds in it, still do first thing in morning feed and dreamfeed, so comfy! Good for soothing DS if he's in a strop as well.

Don't spend a fortune though, it will get covered in all sorts. Mine was just over £100, a Cosatto one I think, glider chair with footstool.

I had stitches and was able to sit in it fairly soon, it was a bit easier than some chairs, but not worth getting just for that I'd say.

I had a glider chair and stool and have used it every day for the past 3 years! Worth every penny.

With DS1 I tore badly then was badly stiched and took 5 months to heal! The glider chair was the one place I was really comfy. The gliding motion was fab as we never had to walk him around to settle him, just cuddle up in the chair (v important once they start getting bigger, the last thing you want is to be walking an 8 month old up and down to settle them).

We went for the dutalier one as it was soo much more comfy than the rest, need a loose cover on it though! DS2 due in a few weeks and DS1 is giving it to his baby brother as a present

I think I will get one but not spend more than £100. And maybe a good idea to sit in one first to see if I do feel a bit queasy!

A good idea peachygirl to get one that can be used in a non-nursey room (and to make sure stocked up on Fabreeze!) and thanks for the info re the valley cushion MrsBadger, didn't know such a thing exists and - if last time was anything to go by - may need one of those too!

Lisad123 that one does look really nice and a good price too - don't think I can persuade DH that we need the dutalier one though it does look lovely(men really have no idea about how sitting down can be a major event after having a baby!)

Think of me in December ladies....

I've got a glider, had it for dd2 and ds and only wish I'd had one for dd1. It is so fantastic, I bfed all night in it, and now I sleep upright in it with ds when he has a cough. It's about to go into ds' room so I'm going to buy a new one just for me!

I used an Ikea Poang with ds1 but found it leaned too far back to bf in comfortably, I needed a huge cushion behind my back to get in the right position.

With dd we happened to see a glider chair for £99 and bought it. TBH, it's fantastic and definitely worth the money, it's really comfy to feed in, didn't hurt my stitches after ds2 was born and is great for dozing in during night feeds. Ours is cream, so again, can go in the lounge when ds2 finishes bfing.

I have a dutailier one, the one comment I would make is that I should have shelled out a few more quid on the version that you can lock into position. I had a C section and found it quite difficult getting out of the chair while v sore in the tummy and holding DD.

Please save your money (unless you have enough to burn) and just buy a nice comfy chair. I had an ikea one for about £15 with a removable/washable cover.

I had stitches too if it makes a difference and a baby that never slept!

I bought one when pg with dd2. She is now 2.5 and I have sat in it every day since buying it.

It is one of the glider rockers - Hauck I think, although if I'd known how much use it would get I would have probably got a Dutalier as they are more padded and therefore more comfortable (more expensive though!).

It was particularly comfy during the later stages of pregnancy and I still sit in it now with dd2 to read her bedtime story.

I got a dutalier one before DS was born. He's now 3.9 and I think it has been used nearly every day since dor DS and now for DD. I love it .

The problem I found with normal chairs is that they were never quite the right height/back position/arms too high or too low etc so I had to rearrange cushions constantly to make them comfortable to feed in for ages, especially in the early days when they spend hours attached! The nursing chairs do what they say on the tin and are just so much more comfortable.

I found feeding lying down a bit rough on the old nips for the first few weeks until they got a bit bigger and more manouverable so I couldn't do every feed lying down, plus I was paranoid about how well they were feeding so I did sit in the chair unless I was absolutely shattered.

i didnt have one but used one at a feeding room and wow it was so comfi and made me relaxed so it was easir to feed/express!
