Please help - Pram advice - what would you recommend

Hi ladies!

Really need some help with regards to a pram. This is my first baby and am getting confused with all the different options...

The main things we are looking for is something lightweight, and a pram that will run smoothly when walking our dog in the forest.

A few people have recommended the silvercross pioneer but then I have read reviews saying it only works well on the pavement. I also like the look of egg strollers but seem quite expensive?

Budget wise I don't really want to go over £700.

Any advice would be much appreciated! X

Oh and we have a lille baby multiway baby carrier which we have used since our baby was 3 weeks old. It is fab but also planning to get a slightly more structured rucksack style carrier for our more strenuous outdoor walks.

My friend really likes her Pioneer but it is a town pram. We bought a pram from the Glasgow Pram Centre. It was their own brand V.I.B. and we are thrilled with it. It copes with countryside walks, forest, kerbs etc. It is a denim coloured one but it is not lightweight. But it has excellent suspension and a good basket. We have a separate light hauk buggy for quick town trips, flights etc. Glasgow Pram centre do sell online but what I wold really say regardless of where you live is really try and go see the prams in person as it is only by looking and pushing etc you know. I had strong ideas about what we wanted from my online research but that all changed when we found our pram that we have.

I have the uppababy vista, which is fabulous and deals with off road really well. My only issue with it is that it's pretty huge and takes up loads of space in my car. I've now also got a city jogger tour for the car and town which is tiny, also great but is only suitable from 6 months and it wouldn't cope with any bumps.

I think the out and about nippers looks fantastic, everyone I know who had one absolutely raves about them!! I almost went for it for my second pram, but decided to go down the very compact ultra light weight version instead.

Babyjogger GT here too. Another plus is that it fits bigger children - v tall 4yo still sits in it when occasionally needed for illness or really long walks.

Out n about nipper. I use mine off road and also around town and it's great. It's not too expensive either.

Though for serious off roading, op, have you looked at baby carriers? We've had ds up mountains in our ergo baby performance.

Might a cheap lightweight pram and a carrier work better?

Mountain Buggy Swift is relatively budget friendly and seems great (I've only test driven it in the shop).

I've just bought a Jane Epic which is supposed to have good suspension for off-road and has special non-puncture all-terrain wheels. I'm only planning on taking it around the local reservoir paths and footpaths so quite light 'off-roading'. If I wanted a more serious off-roader I would look at the Jane Rider, Trider or Crosswalk which have serious chunky wheels. Samuel Johnston currently have some really good deals on the Jane range.

The only problem with Jane is that it isn't such a well-known brand here so there aren't as many reviews to go on and not many shops stock them on the shop floor to look at. But they seem good for the price (around £500 for Epic pushchair with carrycot and Koos carseat)

I couldn't justify the higher end prices, so went with a Brittax B Agile 4, it's fantastic. We also dog walk in the forest so invested in the all terrain wheels for the front. They clip on and off with ease, the buggy folds down easily and can have car seat / carry cot attachments as well as the lie flat standard chair. My dc was very tall, the brittax has the biggest seat that would last the longest.

I have the Silver Cross Pioneer and really wosh I'd bought the Uppababy Vista instead. To get the Pioneer up a small kerb or anything you have to use a foot bar, with the uppababy you can just push down on the handle. Also you can turn the uppababy into a double if needed. I think the uppababy is lighter as well. The Pioneer looks lovely but it's not really in the same league in terms of functionality and it's about the same price as the uppababy (around £700). Bugaboo and iCandy are a good bit more expensive I think.

Warb - I think off road means different things to different people. The chameleon has small front wheels and ours couldn't go Over more than basic gravel or flat grass. Snow=crap, tree branches and actual woodlands =crap, sand =crap, downhill crap as no handle brake to reduce speed, thick mud crap as front wheels stick. It's fine if off-road is actually just a flat woodland path, and over a dry grass field

I do lots of off-road walking and my bugaboo chameleon is great. It's average weight and not easy to fold though. Even if you buy second hand go into a pram shop and try one out.

The buffalo is ginormous though. The chameleon was too heavy and big for me really, but the buffalo I can't even lift alone and can barely see over (I'm 5'5).

I love my bugaboo buffalo; copes really well going 'off-road', is so stuffy, and my daughter looks so comfortable in it. Will be sad to see it go as trading in for a Donkey!

I was looking at the silver cross prams too (although think the surf2 was my favoured one) but it wouldn't fit in my car.

The other two I was comparing against were the icandy peach and the egg. A few of my nct group and another friend have the icandy and get on well with it.

I got the egg in the end as when folded it was slightly smaller to get in my car. Looks wise is fantastic and I get A LOT of comments about how nice it looks. This is clearly not the be all and end all though.

It goes pretty well on forest type walks and the tyres seem very sturdy to me. If you get adaptors you can use with maxi cosi car seats too. The pram / bassinet bit was great and easy to use. I find the stroller / buggy bit for post 6 months a bit more fussy with straps etc.

If you go for the egg, don't bother getting the egg changing bag, it's too small and not worth the money (IME).

I've heard great things about the jogger GT.

I have owned many prams. (so many)

Hands down the best pram EVER is the Baby Jogger city mini. Is suitable from birth, easy to fold, looks good and lasts for years.

Thank you ladies for all of your helpful responses. I love the look of the baby joggers and will def be investing in a sling for walks when baby is tiny. Still like the look of silver cross but would mean getting two prams, and at £600 not looking realistic!

Have to admit, not even trying to get a pram that'll cope with dog walks, especially as i'll have two dogs so not enough hands, will be getting a sling of some sort.

So we've gone for the new mothercare journey as it's £300 all in including car seat.

My bugaboo cam was rubbish off road.

I'd get two second hand ones. One lightweight umbrella fold and something for off roading.

If you find one and you love it, buy it.

I always regretted not buying the one I loved, pram envy is a real thing Envy
well I get it anyway

Baby jogger gt here. We used a graco insert for the first four months and had car seat adapters for a mix cosi seat for when desperate.
Great buggy!

The Pioneer is a lovely pram/buggy and my LO slept in the carry for for the first 5 months of her life. She's never slept as well since! But it is terrible off road, the wheels just don't like bumpy ground. We ended up buying a Graco evo mini when she was a little older and it's great - very reasonably priced too. We still use both the Pioneer and the Graco and she's 2+.

I love my baby jogger GT. It's lovely and smooth to push and folds so easily. The wheels also pop off really easily if you have a full boot and want to make a bit more room. (I also keep a bin bag in the car to put the wheels in if they've got really muddy)

We also have a recaro easylife which isn't nearly as fancy or smooth but is brilliant for public transport (it doesn't lie flat though so isn't suitable for a newborn). It folds into a square shape so is great for fitting into the luggage compartment on buses and trains. I've had many a bus driver marvel at it!

Oh the mountain buggy swift has a carrycot that converts to parent facing seat now also, making it one of few off road that can. It's also relatively cheap. About £350 for pram, £150 for convertible carrycot. Can be used without carrycot also
