Reduced movement

So I've been to the hospital three times with reduced movement, baby is put on the tracer and heartbeat and movement detected, had one extra scan - all said to be fine. I can't feel him move a lot of the time even when they say he is moving and they seem surprised.

I used to be able to feel him quite a bit with some proper thwacks to my stomach. DH could feel him too. Now I've had nearly a week of baby being so quiet, do I go back again?! 29 weeks and I've not felt him at all again today I don't think! I thought this would be the easier bit but from 27 weeks he's movement has reduced more and more or been very subtle. Only went last week to be checked again, DH is ready for us to go up to the hospital again. Doesn't help that all my apps say movement should increase this week! No pattern either now.

Glad all is ok and brilliant that they are being proactive with more monitoring. This one has caused me loads of anxiety over movement, I'm constantly thinking about it! And I'm not even an anxious person!

Just to update, all appears fine. I had to go back in at night for a repeat trace. Doctor has agreed I need twice weekly traces to check movements for the next three weeks and then will extend if any other concerns. Better to be safe I suppose! He has been a little more wiggly since all the prodding and poking!

I used to have this same problem but a lot of the time I was just busy and didn't take much notice... If I thought I hadn't felt movement I took the time to sit down for an hour with a chocolate bar and cold drink and concentrate and count movement, every time it worked for me. Hope alls ok :)

Glad you went in and glad to hear all was OK.

Mascara I'm in the same position (27+4) and just got back from hospital. All okay. I also have anterior placenta and MWs seem to think my change in pattern is just down to baby moving to position where he's cushioned.

I'm struggling to know what to do next as I'm just so anxious. They said to come back if I get concerned but I feel like a burden. Will be interested to hear what advice they give you

Well done for going in. There's no such thing as an unnecessary trip if you're not 100% happy.

That's the problem I'm struggling to know what's normal anymore, sounds very similar though. I also spend hours on end just monitoring to see if I can feel anything as the midwives say maybe I've 'busy' and miss them but I've been more conscious to try feel for them and have slowed down recently to allow him time to move so I can reassure myself with a kick or two. Waiting here now to be seen.

I've just delivered a baby whose movements were just like this and she is a healthy little girl. Daily I worried about her movements as her movements were far fewer, far quieter than any of my others and were quieter once I hit about 28weeks than beforehand.
What you are looking for are changes to their normal pattern of movements once you hit 28weeks rather than reduced movements from a month ago. This may just be your baby.
Until you feel confident in what are normal patterns of movement for your baby I would not worry about going to the hospital and sitting on the monitor for a while. They would rather see you 10 times too many, than one time too few.
I spent the last few months constantly doing the sit down for an hour etc, several times a day just to get one reassuring kick each time.
Let us know how you get on.

Placenta is anterior but it's always been anterior and I've felt strong movements previously (not all the time) where I could even see the kicks. Babies probably moved somewhere but that excuse is running out as he gets bigger I guess! Can't establish a pattern as its so inconsistent.

Absolutely agree with pp. as far as I'm concerned where your baby is concerned there are no unnecessary trips.

I've heard too many sad stories to even give two hoots about what anyone thinks.

Get yourself to hospital and get checked out. You'll feel better!

Have they checked the babies position and your placenta? Are these causing you to feel less movements I wonder.

Anyway! Best of luck!

I will call them now, only had the tracer done on Wednesday last week. Can't imagine another 10 weeks like this!

I know this is true. I try the obvious hot, cold, laying on my side, sugary drinks etc but nothing seems to come of it. It used to but those tricks haven't worked for weeks really.

Call the hospital

If you are concerned go to the hospital. Much better to be checked out "unnecessarily" than potentially miss a problem.
