So I've had an early scan and I've been dated 6 weeks 4 days from my measurements. People keep telling me that it's 2 weeks before that you are pregnant... So that would make me 4 weeks?? But why would my baby measure 6mm+ I'm only really worried due to having sex on around 25th/26th dec 2014 with my ex who is my sons dad, we have been through a really tough yeah and to someone else I was seeing on 17th jan. But if I'm 6 weeks 4 days I'm guessing it would mean I got pregnant on 25th/26th? Please can I have advice without the negatives! Thank you! X

Your lmp is irrelevant in this case. Your scan dates you at 6 weeks which means you conceived 4 weeks ago - around 17th January.

As I said on your other thread, along with several other people, if you are measuring at 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant, it is almost certainly the sex on the 17th. Another poster who conceived at Christmas explained that she is 9 weeks pregnant now which is what you would be if your ex was the father.

Think about many, many years ago when we didn't have scans and pregnancy was just dated from your last menstrual period as that was all they really had to go on (and all we really have to go on tbh until we are scanned or have blood tests). Pregnancy is dated in the average woman as roughly 40 weeks from her last menstrual period but in reality she is only pregnant from the point of conception. Which being an average, textbook woman happens 2 weeks after her last menstrual period. She is actually only pregnant for 38 weeks. The first 2 weeks are the time in between her last period and the egg being released/sperm doing its job.

So if they tell you that you are 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant, what they mean is that you conceived, the baby was made 4 weeks and 2 days ago. Which is the middle of January.

It's dated from LMP assuming that you have a 'perfect' 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. If you knock 14 days off how pregnant the scan says you are it will give you an idea when you conceived, so sounds like it was the middle of January.
6mm is fine for a 6 week baby, foetal pole is only visible from week 5 then grows 1mm a day. Did you see a heartbeat?

Sorry saw you had answered the my question already. It does sound unlikely that he is the father as you would need to have ovulated very early that cycle and be around 10 weeks pregnant by now.sorry!

I think (and I am guessing) it is from the guy from the 17th January. Also, that you didn't ovulate till late (day 28 vs normally ovulating around day 14) so if they try and date you based on your period then it would say ~9 weeks but in reality you are only 6 weeks.

At around 6 weeks they are measuring something of the order of mm so a small change in cursor position can change the dating by a few days. So it may well change at your next scan.

Which guy were you hoping it would be?

From your dates it sounds like it was the guy on the 17th Jan, but don't worry, me and my half-siblings were brought up together and see each other as full siblings. We are very close and the fact we have different fathers is a non-issue. Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

they won't properly date you until your 12 week scan, its hard at this stage, I measured a week less at my 8 week scan and then a week ahead at my 12 week. Would also depend on cycle length, but if your last LMP was 17th december it would be unusual for you to be ovulating 8 days later..? was the 17th the first day of your LMP? you'd be better of asking your midwife really

The first two weeks don't count, as it is always dated back to your last menstral period.

So my LMP was 19th August, I know that we conceived on or around 5th September due to a slight accident and am.now 25+2, if I went by conception date I would be 23+1 :) measurments take into account the two weeks your aren't pregnant prior to conception. So if they are dating you at six weeks it will be four weeks since you actually conceived and the two other weeks were your weeks before ovulation
