Hot baths?

My DP ran me a lovely bubble bath as I've been feeling pretty rubbish the past few days. It was pretty hot, I had to slowly inch my way in. I was sat in there for about 10 minutes before he suddenly thought that it might be a bad idea as I'm pregnant and googled it. I quickly got out but now I'm really worried that I may have harmed the baby. I'm only 6+2 so it's still really early days! I didn't even think about it being a bad idea.

Any advice?

Yes, make sure its not too hot next time. If u needed to tease itself in then it was too hot. Warm is fine xx

I have to say I had hot baths throughout my sons pregnancy and have done so with this one so far.

They are not so hot that I have to ease myself in though. Plus I keep my tummy raised out of the water so my core doesn't get 'hot hot'.

My understanding that the risk was more to do with lightheadedness and injury.

I've had hot baths with both babies because my backache normally gets so bad that it's all that helps.

The heat thing is to do with raising your overall core temperature which is actually really difficult to do if your upper half and bump (towards the end) are sticking out the water.

Some of my happiest and most relaxing times have been in hot baths with the music playing and a cup of tea. Smile

In both my pregnancies I've continued to have hot baths, just not quite as hot as when not pregnant. I've just judged it on what felt comfortable at the time. Once I could feel DD kicking, I knew if the water was too hot by her reaction - she would squirm, wriggle & generally kick the wotsit out of me if she didn't like it!

I asked my midwife this as we haven't got a shower so only have baths, she said if you can sit in it then its fine. As in if it were too hot for baby it would be too hot for you.

Definitely won't be having any more hot baths that's for sure!

Did feel a little light headed getting out but thought that may have been cos I jumped out so quickly!

Don't worry, it won't have harmed the baby at this stage as it's teeny tiny and well protected. However you need to be careful of raising your core body temp too high - future baths should be cool enough so that you can get in and out without 'easing' in because of the heat, shouldn't be hot enough to make your skin red etc.

Also be careful when getting out of thr bath - my DH used to help me when I was pg as it used to make me dizzy.
