Pointless and full of advertising crap or worth getting?

I refused to touch the pack the midwife offered at my booking in appt. She was a bit surprised but said it was fair enough. This is my first pg but I've read a LOT about the evils of Bounty on here and elsewhere and if those fuckers come anywhere near me after labour, I shall not be held responsible for my behaviour!

Do they still have them in hospitals? I'm due in 3 weeks and thinking how to tell them to go away without getting angry.

Differ not duffer!

Much as it sounds a waste of time, I'm going to get as the little sample pots might come in useful. I'm presuming they duffer depending on what shop you collect it from then?

I love my bounty packs it's fun and in fairness the bounty rep when I had DS just have me my pack and that was it she didn't talk to me beyond saying DS was beautiful. It was the photographer I wasn't keen on.

Mainly crap. A couple of useful (but tiny!) samples.

I didn't meet the hospital Bounty rep as I was on the loo. My OH managed to give her my email and postal address despite me warning him about them (Envy ). But to be fair I only got 1 email inviting me to register (which I ignored) and a few bits of baby related post which I assume are due to Bounty but can't be sure (and go straight in the recycling).

Oh yeah, the child benefit form is the other thing. The Bounty reps have been known to imply that you can only get the form from them. Uh, nope, it's freely available on the HMRC website. So fuck off.

Mine has 3 cussons samples- mum and me bump cream 25ml, hand gel, baby sleep tight bath. A small tub of sudocreme. A pack of 20 dettol surface wipes, 1 nappy, shampoo and conditioner sachet, and a Persil branded baby towel.

I got mine from Boots last week and I was bloody disappointed - and quite offended. Mine was stuffed with washing powder samples and liquid-tabs as well as flyers on getting back in shape after baby is born. Oh, and dettol kitchen wipes. Only thing of any use was a tiny tub of Sudocrem.

It felt very much like "hey there fatty, be sure to get back in the kitchen ASAP!"

Was distinctly unimpressed.

I gave my Emma's diary to the hospital midwives who howled with laughter when reading it in their breaks.

I remember filling out an Emma's diary thing and then few months after ds born getting lots of marketing phone calls for various things such as electricity and photos. Was still getting them a year later. We had bounty photos done in hosp and I loved them...

Similar to the Bounty packs, I would post a link but they don't seem to work on my phone Sad I just Googled "Emma's Diary". They have lots of useless leaflets and a few samples (an a full size pack of wipes in one Grin) Depends on how you feel about these things whether it's worth getting, I binned almost all the leaflets but I'm a sucker for a freebie!

What's Emma's Diary? Not got that yet.

see i've had four babies in hospital and never had a problem with bounty. and in our hospital the photographer isn't the bounty rep. the photographer is Tempest (the same as school photographer) and they come around seperately. no one has ever done the hard sell on me and i have loved the pictures.

My birth plans for 2&3 had a bit about Bounty which said 'Under no circumstances are they to come near me'.

After no.1 who was pushy with trying to take a pic. I asked her to wait for DH who had popped to the loo and she tutted, rolled her eyes, popped a bounty pack on my legs and asked for my personal detail which I refused to give. She then removed the pack and told me she wouldn't be able to give me my child benefit form. I shrugged and she plonked it back down on my legs and left not to return.

I know the bloke who came up with the idea of the Bounty pack.

He's the dad of someone I know. He was so proud when he told me the pack was his idea. He genuinely thought it was brilliant. He is an arrogant arse though.

I just smiled and nodded and changed the subject. I don't think they're a brilliant idea, I think they're a cheap way of foisting crap and hassle on new mums and getting info out of you.

LegoCaltrops · 17/08/2014 00:24

In principle, I think Bounty have had far too much access for far too long. And the packs are pretty poor. And I am appalled at some of the things I have read about them on MN.

But, I did buy a photo from them, as they said they could touch it up to hide the really massive cuts DD had on her face from the forceps, she still has scars on both cheeks at 2.3 years. I have to say, they actually did a really good job.

Bounty sound like jerks. If they come near me in the hospital I'm gonna tell them where to stick their tiny pots of Sudocrem!

I'm glad to hear bounty reps are wearing branded clothing squizita - with DS 3 years ago she walked in unannounced, wearing hospital admin staff clothing and wheeling a trolley with a computer on. She didn't identify herself at all, and I was led to believe (as I was quite poorly) the photo was for hospital records - it was really intrusive when she then started the hard sell. I'm 36 weeks and only just been given Emma's diary and a bounty pack - I've thrown about 80% of the contents away as it was mainly junk mail/leaflets etc.

I got squat in mine from the mW 1st trimester - just paper and a teabag.
There wasn't even an "Emma's diary" (which I was given before a previous MC so too superstitious to ask for).
My notes were given separately.

At my hospital I have seen the reps wearing Bounty branded t-shirts with a cart with photo products - I doubt they could pass themselves off as anything bar sales ladies. Maybe the hospital asks them to do this to avoid mums thinking they are officials?

I must have been giving off a vibe at my booking appointment, mw didn't even offer me one despite there being a box of them in plain sight. Refused photos on ward too but the other women had them, the didn't sound like they were very natural photos lots of 'no hold baby this way, put baby here' going on.

Report
JennyBlueWren · 16/08/2014 21:33

I like the fact we weren't given them by the midwife -who did give me a pack full of NHS info e.g. breastfeeding, healthy eating and the fancy book. Instead there was just a stand of them int he reception of the scanning dept.

God thats awful about the family with the stillbirth. Poor family.

I logged onto to bounty and changed my preferences back to not have my details sold on each time i was given a pack and it seemed to work on the whole.

I was thinking no wonder she didnt fuck off when i didnt want the photo because they charge you quite a bit for them i believe, so would instantly make their money back.

Report
FreeSpirit89 · 16/08/2014 21:11

@WhyOWhy - Yes/No.

Bounty use the details they take sometimes of medical notes left in the file of sleeping mothers and then sell them on to external companies for an amount no one knows. For each baby they process they give the hospital "commission" of £5.50 per babie details collected.

One family who had a still born was still getting letters about there child a few years later, no amount of calls/emails would get them to remove the details, so they keep being sold on. Im not sure if the photos are though. I would hope not.
