I am 32 + 2 with second, and have gained appro 1.5 stone so far, gone from 9.5 to 11. Nurse said to watch it, am potentially gaining too much!! Sure this is not the case. Am sure I gained about 2.5 with DD1, most of it came out in water in few days after birth!

Surely your weight gain will also depend.on.the size of your baby. If you have a 9lber (as I did), putting on only 1 stone would only leave 5lb for placenta and fluid which doesn't seem much. Even being overweight, I was advises that I should aim to maintain rather than lose weight. As it was, regular scans demonstrate that my weight gain was baby associated rather than weight gain due to eating too much.

Advise to pregnant women should be to eat a healthy diet plus regular exercise rathe than sit with feet up and eat for two. And as far as I know, that is exactly what is advised by the department of health (healthy eating and regular gentle exercise).

DS was 11 1/2lb, he would only have allowed me a weight gain of 2 1/2 lb if the guide was 1 stone!

Halloweenyqueen - i was exercising 6 times a week, walking a couple of miles a day, in my pregnancies and still put on 3 to 3 and a half stone - a lot was water and some was weight as was slowing down (before did 10 exercise sessions a week). Both my babies were 9 lbers. My body was fit and strong for both labours. All women are different and what is excessive gain for one might not be for another. I hope your pregnancy and birth go well.
