Major head cold, any tips??

Basically I have been suffering for the last 3 days with a really bad head cold, it's not on my chest or throat I've just got a really badly blocked nose and feel as though my head is full, oh and I contantly have sneezing fits which seems to empty my head for a little while and then it fills back up - dorry if TMI!

I know I can take paracetamol but I don't really think I need it as I don't have a fever or any aches and pains.

Currently 7+3 and struggling with tiredness as it is but this is making it worse as it takes me ages to get to sleep at night and I keep waking up.

Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to get rid of it?

Thanks! xx

Thanks for the tip about the spray. I'll give it a go.

You want a Sterimar spray! It's saline and it's just fab. Totally safe in pregnancy.

Or if you're feeling brave a Neilmed Sinus Rinse which will literally clean out your sinuses.

Dh has had lots of sinus probs (3 major ops in 4yrs) and these are what his consultant insists his patients use. I've not braved the sinus rinse, but the spray is fantastic.

If it's that delightful bug my husband's given me (only he had the near-fatal man-flu strain, I have "you've just got a cold quit being a wimp") then you've got my sympathy. It's fucking vile - and I've normally got the immune system of an ox so very little knocks me out!

You could try putting your head over a boiling kettle or pot of hot water - the steam can help to clear out sinus congestion so may help with a cold too. I've also tried taking extra strong mints to help clear out my sinuses. I think you should be careful about essential oils in pregnancy but haven't heard anyone say you shouldn't eat mints. I've also had the occasional curry or curry flavour cup a soup to help clear my sinuses.

Head over a bowl full of steam to release the pressure on your nasal passages.

I'm guessing if Karvol drops are ok for babies then they are probably safe in pregnancy?

Lots of liquids to hydrate you, lots of rest and lots of chocolate

Thanks all!

I've been taking my prenatal vits as normal every day and having a large glass of oj, plus drinking loads of hot ribena so my body should be full of vit c, I shall look into the nasal spray later on. I haven't taken any paracetamol yet as I don't think I need that - ideally I need a sudafed but can't have one!Fingers crossed it leaves soon!

A saline nasal spray, from a chemist, will help loads, similar to the ones used to clear babies congestion.

ill join you i'm 24+4 and full of a stinking head cold and today i've woke up and its starting to hit my chest. Only thing you can do is ride it out. Gutted I cant take cold n flu stuff cos they normaly work a treat but they have alot of caffeine in them.

Im not one to take paracetamol unless i'm in agony but DH forced some on me yesterday and although it didn't relieve the congestion in my head it did help with the pressure it was causing. Plenty of vit C and hot water with lemon is all i can think of really and i'm subious that it's working

Try warm ribena or honey and lemon in hot water, the honey will help your throat and make you feel better. Only take paracetemol if you've actually got aches/pains as it won't do anything to clear your cold. Also eat lots of foods containing vitamin c as they can help with the cold part! Hope this helps!
