Morning girls!!

I'm having my booking in scan at 11 weeks exactly i think, i never recieved my first appointment time and info pack so i missed it!

I know they will refer me for a scan, do you still think it will be at 12 weeks becuase my bookin in appointment is quite late, or do you rekon i will have to hang on a bit longer? I REALLLLLY want my scan lol x

I think it depends where you are and what appointments they have available. I was really worried about the same thing and posted on here a few weeks ago as my booking in was at 11+3 and i really wanted to have the scan. Just make sure you are able to go at any time and they'll probably fit you in as soon as theres a fre eappointment. I had mine 6 days after booking in as I told the midwife I would go whenever and she called the hospital at the booking in and go the first available appointment.
Good luck!

Also- you shouldn't have to wait 'til your booking appt to get the wheels in motion to book in the scan. My scan was booked in for me before my booking in appt was. You could ring and ask about this.

The nuchal scan must be done between these sets of dates for the medical reasons below:
'An ultrasound scan must be performed between 11 weeks and 13 weeks plus six days of pregnancy. Before 11 weeks the scan is technically difficult because the baby is so tiny and, after 14 weeks, any excess fluid may be absorbed by the baby's developing lymphatic system'.

If you're offered an appointment for a nuchal scan later than 13+6 you should complain and insist they offer you an earlier appointment. I work in the NHS and have looked after services with clinics etc in the past - sometimes there isn't enough capacity in the system to fit in everyone but this isn't your problem.

Just insist they get back to you with an appointment before 13+6 or ask to speak to the manager of the service. They won't fix it on the phone - someone higher up the chain will have to get extra people working/arrange an extra clinic etc. Have had to do it myself and so have quite a few of my friends but if they can't fit you in within the window for a nuchal scan that exists medically, they need to find a way to do it. Not much point going for a scan later than 13+6 if it's potentially ineffective.

Well my booking in appt is at a local childrens centre which happens to be in the primary school where my mates mum is headteacher so that's not ideal as nobody knows im expecting yet, will have to hide lol

I'm just so impatient i want to see my baby, i hope they can get me in quick x

I had my booking appointment at 12 weeks and then they fit in my scan at the same day (it was on the same ward as my booking appointment) as they said you should always have the first scan before 13 weeks - but may be different policies at different hospitals...

They cocked up my booking appt with my first baby & so I had it at 11wks. My midwife faxed through the forms to the hospital in front of me at the booking appt to speed everything up & I got my scan thru for 2 weeks later. However, this was when our health authority didnt offer free nuchal scans so there wasnt any real rush...if you are entitled to a free nuchal screening then you need to have your scan by 13+6 so you must tell midwife at booking & she'll have to make sure your scan is scheduled within the relevant dates (btwn 11wks & 13+6wks).

You could also call the scan clinic & ask if there are any cancellations to fit you in sooner...

I had my booking appointment at 11 weeks and my scan at about 13+4. Think it depends on what they have available.
