Should I worry about backache?

I'm 11-12 weeks pregnant and I have a 24 week old baby (heading for two babies 52 weeks apart).

My back is killing me. I blamed it on the pushchair which is not really high enough (I'm tall) but I have since stopped using a pushchair at all. I am not using a sling or the car seat either. Basically DP has been following me around for 2 days like my own personal Sherpa, carrying baby and bags, bless him.

The backache is unchanged.

For family reasons (a relative is on the surgery staff) we have not told the Dr I am pregnant yet. We have not actually fully come to terms with it ourselves and we need more time as a couple. We always wanted more kids, but in truth we couldn't have conceived with worse timing. We used contraception and it failled. It's been a long road persuading DP that abortion isn't an option for me. I don't want to be cornered into going to the Dr until I am ready to face my family with this news and that might be another few weeks yet.

But the backache is starting to worry me.

What if backache is a symptom of something bad? Is it? I have no idea. Or is it just a harmless if miserable pregnancy symptom, like morning sickness, that unless it bothers me too much to live with I don't need to get advice on?

Can you help?

I'm really suffering with my back atm. I did before i was preg - currently 33+3 it's horrible and is making me miserable. Have you thought about possibly seeing a physio? maybe google one that specialises in pregnancy. I am also looking into starting pregnancy yoga which is also supposed to be really good for backache/ general aches and pains. I'm googling atm cause i can't stand the pain anymore i'll let u know if i come across anything. :)

I don't think it's anything to worry about, I have really bad backache (18 weeks) and have done since about 12-13 weeks.
I'm sorry it's not good timing for you but congratulations all the same - sometimes surprises happen for a reason I believe :)
Perhaps mention it to your Dr when you do decide to tell someone (they might be able to prescribe a lotion or medication to help - you can take paracetamol) - could you not go to a different Dr and wouldn't they not be bound by the hypocratic oath to keep your news to themselves? It would be highly unprofessional for your Dr to mention this to anyone else and I'm sure it would damage their career if they did break your confidence and tell someone.

Good luck and I hope you have a smooth pregnancy from now on. Wishing you all the best with any situations that arise with it not being the best timing.
