Potty training

How do I teach my 2yr5m son to poo in the potty/toilet?!

I've been potty training my son for over 2 weeks now and he grasped the wees really well. He can wee when prompted, though there are the odd accidents when he's busy etc, or doesn't tell me in time.

But I'm struggling to train him on how to poo and he continues to do them standing up in his pants (sorry if TMI). Any time I spot him in time and try to get him to a potty or toilet, he stops. Partly the problem is he can't yet pull his own pants/trousers down. But also he doesn't seem to be able to anticipate them. Also he stands to wee so seems he can't figure out what to do when sitting down.

Any suggestions or advice please???!

If he can't anticipate his poos, you might want to go back to diapers for a while. He's still quite young and it's not a step backwards. I did this with DD1, started again a few months later and she was pee and poo trained in a couple of days.

Hi Nkkfff - just to share your pain. i've just posted a thread called How to get poo on the loo and have realized I'm in exact same position as you. Have you had any progress? So far this week, we've had every wee in the loo but two poos in pants and one in night time nappy. Grrr!

For some reason, poos take longer! DS1 was potty trained for wees for a couple of months before he master poos, and it just happened! Make sure you have lots of pairs of pants and trousers, don't leave home without spares, and good luck.

thanks all! not much progress but i'm remaining hopeful. i don't feel i can go back to nappies now as he's doing so well wee-wise. good luck to you too - fingers crossed it won't last that much longer...
