Mini pill following birth

I gave birth to my first baby at the beginning of December, at my 6 week check I decided to go on the mini pill and started straight away as instructed as I had also started my first period that day. Everything was fine until about 3 weeks later when I started spotting a bit, Ive now been bleeding for a few weeks, at first it was just when I wiped and didn’t need to wear a pad but now I’m having to but it is still very light bleeding and changes from brown to red and back again. I know when I started the pill I was told I could get irregular periods at first but this seems to be never ending, has anyone had anything similar? Wondering if I need to contact my GP surgery or give it a bit longer.

I was on the mini pill for years before DS. I never had periods on it. Went back on it after birth. I will have irregular bleeding now (mostly so light I don't need a proper pad). This is 2 years postpartum!

Although light do they last long? I don’t mind having irregular bleeding it’s just annoying if it’s lasting weeks

No, mine don't last long. I'm bad at keeping track but never seems to be more than a few days.

I was on the mini pill for almost 10 years before having my daughter and only bled a few days a year. Whenever I stayed overnight at my sister's which was weird.

I went back on it as soon as I could and didn't have any periods until 2 months after I stopped breastfeeding. Then I had a period every 14 days lasting 3-5 days. At my next med review at the GP about 6 months later I mentioned it. She did an internal exam and took some swaps that showed an bacterial vaginosis and prescribed some antibiotics. I was due a smear test a few months later so I had that as soon as I was able and they arranged an ultrasound sound too. Nothing showed up as wrong. I can't remember when but this was 18 months ago and I mostly have a 28 day cycle as it were with the occasional 14 day cycle. I know it's not actually a cycle as the hormones are suppressing it etc. I use clue to monitor the dates. I can now tell about a day before I come on that it all feels off which I never did prior to my daughter.

How did you get on? I'm having the same thing but I stopped taking the mini pill as it wasn't agreeing with me. I've been bleeding on and off for about 3 weeks now. We're going away for a night tomorrow for our anniversary so I really wanted it to stop!!!

Did you stop taking it three weeks ago?

Can you take the combined pill? I had the same issue and tried the combined. Perfect ever since.

I'm not sure if it will stop it by tomorrow (or even if you'd get it) but worth a try. I'd be tempted to get the tablet that delays periods too for the anniversary night. Not sure on the name but I think it has to be prescribed too.

I tried the mini pill earlier this year (first contraceptive post partum and still breastfeeding albeit DD is 2 years old).

I had a really heavy period much longer than usual just after starting it, then a week or so after it finished I started bleeding again. This continued for weeks, sometimes a bit of spotting, sometimes heavier period style bleeding, no pattern, no sign of it stopping at all, totally intermittent and difficult to manage.

Also made me very emotional and low in mood.

I had a holiday coming up and decided to stop it - within 2 days all bleeding had ceased and felt much better in myself.

Now on the combined pill instead, think my milk supply has dipped but given DD's age and she only has a bedtime feed, not too worried about this. Suits me so much better.

I think it was a good 6-8 weeks since I stopped it. I was on Rigevidon for about 4 years before I had my baby and never had any issues. I wanted to go back on it but was told I needed to lose more weight first. I have a GP appointment next week to hopefully start it again now I've lost weight. I have PCOS so periods are very rare unless I'm on the pill so this came as quite a surprise!

Urgh sounds like we are in the same boat. I'm able to have it still but each time with a fight and a lecture. My age and weight are against me and even if I was slim, I'd only have 3 more years on it anyway. All good fun 😭

I know that feeling. Before when I was on it, every time I went back for more the nurse always said 'ooh if you put anymore weight on you won't be able to have this one anymore'. Don't need to remind me that!
