Postnatal visits - health visitor checks

As I am classed as an ‘out of area’ patient at my birth hospital of choice and am seeing a community midwife at my local GP surgery where I live, what happens after baby is born when it comes to having health visitor checks / postnatal appointments? Who will carry these out and how do I go about arranging these? Will it be the hospital that I gave birth out doing these even though I am not in their local area or would I need to contact my local community midwife number and have them come out? Any help would be appreciated as I’m getting myself all worked up about this haha!

You should ask your midwife, but I expect it will be you are discharged to your local community services for follow-up.

Health visiting will be your local team as these are area based not linked to hospitals.

Ime you don't have to do any arranging, they'll call you. It'll probably be a mixture of home visits and community health centre

Hi
i was the same as you. It got passed to the community team but I got missed and my baby nearly missed their heel prick test in the specified time because of it. I called the hospital I gave birth at who were amazing and got onto my community team for me as I was unable to reach anyone despite trying several numbers. I probably just had a bad experience but I would make sure you follow up with them if you don’t hear anything. It seems to be a bit of a messy system when out of area.
