Adhesions post c-section/indent in scar

Hi this is going to be a bit TMI… I had a c-section 3 years ago in April everything went smoothly with the surgery and with the recovery although ever since I had my c-section I’ve had painful sex it seems to just be getting worse is positions we could do I can’t do now because it’s so painful. (The pain is kind of in my stomach, not in the vagina/opening) I plucked up the currage to go to the doctors about this is July 2023 also went to the doctors about my irregular periods( don’t know if this is linked) got referred to gynaecologists had that appointment in November 2023 but didn’t go well so now back on the wait list. When the doctor was doing an internal examination on her notes she’s put left adnexal bulk (the gynaecologist didn’t look at this further, he didn’t do a internal examination) I have had an ultrasound and that’s clear.
And I’ve been looking at my scar more and noticing this indent let’s say on my scar I’ve been reading up and heard this can be adhesions that can cause painful sex etc.
I’ll post a picture below best I could get.
Has anyone had similar with there scar and the painful sex?

Yes . I have adhesions from a hysterectomy scar which is in a similar place . Still feel it many years later . I said so once to a nurse who told me that it is a very common thing for c sections too and is not acknowledged enough. Unless it is extremely painful and surgery is contemplated not a lot you can do . And there is no guarantee that the surgery won't also leave adhesions . They are basically keloid scars that remain. Sorry to hear this.

Hey, I had my c section just over a year ago and although I don’t have painful sex, I did have adhesions and do know they really commonly cause painful sex. I do also get extreme pain in my section scar and abdomen, especially after doing lots of lifting during the day etc. I also have more painful periods since having my baby. Adhesions can also attach to different places in your body.

I also had ultrasound scans, examinations and all the bloodwork etc but everything was normal.

After lots of drs opinions one mentioned adhesions. Which I felt sounded accurate with what I was experiencing. The only way to accurately find adhesions tho is through a laparoscopy. I went in for the procedure a few days ago and turns out I had adhesions that were connecting my section scar to my womb and were pulling on it, they have now been cut. I was advised they may reform but very unlikely it will be worse as it was performed laparoscopically. Other adhesions had formed but if they didn’t look to be pulling they weren’t cut. I also had patches of endometriosis which they said would’ve likely been contributing to the painful periods, so they were burnt away. I am currently recovering now - in lots of pain lol but hopeful it will have helped. They said I could also have trauma to my abs from the section being an emergency but we won’t know for 8 weeks to give my body chance to heal.

There is not a lot of drs aware of adhesions causing problems, particularly after sections so it is worth getting different opinions. I know that you are on the waitlist and I really hope it comes around quickly for you. I hope they are able to help you 🫶🏼

@Eve2024
Thank you for your response, I’ve been referred for a laparoscopy due to another reason me seeing a gynaecologist was struggling to conceive I’ve now been trying for 1 year 3 months and the gynaecologist doesn’t seem to think I’m ovulating.

How long was you waiting for your laparoscopy?

Unfortunately I was told the wait for a laparoscopy would be very long - a couple of years! So me and my partner decided to get me private healthcare as I have been getting worse and couldn’t wait that long. I know it can be extremely expensive but we went with vitality and they’ve been really good. I hope the wait isn’t too long for you! 🤞🏽

@Eve2024 thank you, I got told 16 weeks but I’m not holding my breath, got told this 9 weeks ago.
my main worry is getting a letter saying it’s booked for like the following week then having to sort work out I’m a hairdresser so would have to reschedule so many clients

That’s really positive 16 weeks! 🤞🏽 when I have been referred to the hospital previously (for something completely different years ago) I was given quite a lot of notice for my appointment. So I think it would be very unlikely they would give you one with only a weeks notice - but I can’t say for certain. I did get 4 weeks notice for my laparoscopy. I know it would be annoying having to move around appointments. But I hope you get seen soon!!
