Hi, I've recently made friends with a lady who is Muslim.
I'd like to get either her/the children/the whole family something for Eid-Al-Fitr.
I'm just not sure what, nor what would be appropriate?
Would some sweets/dried fruit platter be best? Or individual gifts for the children? Or just something for my friend?
Left to my own devices, I'd probably go edible platter, and maybe £10 each for the children in Eid cards
Thankyou!

Hello @Queenfreak what a lovely and thoughtful friend you are!

Depending on your budget and how many kids there are I think I would just get a big box of chocolates for them, the round tubs of Celebrations/Roses are very popular for Eid.

Something like this usually goes down well. My DH is Muslim and loves dates. When the boys were younger we used to make our own by buying plain dates (good quality ones like medjoul) deseeding them and then dipping in chocolate or adding nuts in where the seed was.

He loved these and appreciated the little bit of effort involved.

@Queenfreak I'd avoid dates as an Eid gift because Muslims have spent the whole month of Ramadan breaking their fast with dates.

The suggestion of a tub of celebrations is a good one. I'd then get a small spring plant or ornaments for the garden so they last beyond Eid.

Also, Muslims avoid Israeli dates for ethical reasons so check the country of origin on the packaging.

This is so kind and thoughtful of you.

I'm a Muslim and I think your idea is spot on. Adults give kids money on Eid (called an Eidi). £10 in an envelope for each is perfect!

And yes to a dry fruits platter/ or a baklava platter/ or a cake or a box of chocolates or anything edible.
