Contacting the spirit realm

Does anyone know how long to wait before contacting someone after they have passed via a medium???
Ie: days, weeks or months?

I'd say it's up to you when to go, but it can be easier to connect with someone once you have accepted that they have gone, only speaking from experience xx HTH
