Fasting

Anyone have any opinions? My church is promoting a 28 day Fast in January. Has anyone done this before and if yes, did you feel it brought you closer to God?

(BTW I checked the 'Fasting Calendar' and you don't go 28 days with no food as I initially thought!!! Still pretty rigorous though. Some days are vegetables, some just juices, but the last 4 days is only juices and water!!)

Ha, not thinking of doing it (unless you include giving up wine which I do want to do for 28 days!!), just curious to know if anyone else has and if they felt any 'spiritual benefit'

MaryBS, it seems a long time to me too Shock

I've done shorter fasts, but not 28 days. Can I ask what health checks are being put in place for those taking part? 28 days is a LONG time! You wouldn't expect to do a marathon without training, personally I think if I were considering doing this, I would NOT do the 28 days, but try shorter periods first.

And spiritually, I get more out of periods of silence and doing without the internet, TV etc, than I do from doing without food :)

i think its bollocks.

fasting for a day and giving the equiv of what you would have spent to a charity, i agree with.

i can't see how you could possibly be a good patient, loving, kind, thoughtful person on juice and water.
