We can go tonight, tomorrow night, Thursday night or Friday night.

I'd say no, I will only have sweets etc for callers on Wednesday, no other nights.

Same here about decorations. I put out a lantern and a dish of sweets so they won't knock. So far has worked. Fingers crossed!

No. I would have nothing to give you, and you would have pissed me right off.

I have candy on the 31st to give out, which on the nit of the 31st I put into a bowl and get myself ready to be door answering.

You are not welcome to beg at any other time.

How weird!

No it's not ok! Halloween is the 31st!

I have to work on 31st and he really wants to go. We were only going to go to houses with pumpkins/decorations. He's 6 and his friend who wanted to come with him is 4, so not intimidating teens.

I had said we could maybe go tonight, but I'm thinking now that we shouldn't go.

Why not ask a few neighbours if they'll play along?

Can't you go before/after work?

Do you have friends nearby who you could prearrange something with?

Report
Loshad · 30/10/2012 11:01

Can't who ever is looking after him tomorrow take him?

Report
StrangeGlue · 30/10/2012 11:05

No, you need to either: take him before work, get someone else to take him, or not go.

Personally I dislike trick or treating but DH has convinced me to get some sweets in for Wednesday as we now live in a child full area. And then he's gone and bought two small boxes of quality streets to give out?? I said "why didn't you get a bag of cadbury/haribo minis" and he said "oh yeah, that would have been better". Doh! I might pop out tomorrow and buy haribo and keep the quality streets (which won't go far anyway).

...tangent...

OFGS it's fine.

People can say no.

Fully expecting most of ours on Saturday, as that is when the town is having our Hallowe'en celebration, I don't think people are going to dress up twice!

But I would feel so sad if a hopeful ghost knocked on my door and I had nothing to give it....

Prime the neighbours.

Well if you were only going to where there are decorations up I suspect there wouldn't be any tonight!

Pagwatch · 30/10/2012 13:35

Either warn your neighbours or don't do it.
Turning up loads of houses to be greeted with'but it's tomorrow - I don't have anything!' is worse than not going at all

I think you are being a tad over optimistic there. It is half term right now and our village will be full of kids trick or treating tomorrow evening.

Can't your son's friend's mum take them instead?

CrunchyFrog - last time I said no I had an egg thrown at my window.

Not really, however i am overnighting at work with my children on the 31st so have cleared it with my two friends to come and knock tonight, poor ds is only 3.5 and is so excited about wearing his princess dress?!?

No unless you ask someone before hand if they would mind

I know how much kids love trick or treating at halloween and always buy in a ton of sweets to give out but I would be very Hmm if someone knocked on a day other than Halloween, it's can get annoying enough on one night let alone extending it Grin

We always have the odd multipack of crisps, mini rolls, jaffa cakes etc so wouldn't be the end of the world if we had trick or treaters before/after 31st. Half term here was last week so I expected some at the weekend, but we didn't get any, although we were out Saturday and Sunday night. We've not long moved in, so don't really know the neighbours. DS' friend's mum is also at work tomorrow night. About 6 houses had the halloween decorations up already, but we decided not to go after seeing everyone's responses here.

But why can't you go after work? I'm a bit :( for your DS and you!

Report

It's a nuisance on the 31st, and off the scale any other time.

I think I would turn the tables and do the tricks if called upon on the wrong day.

Ah ok. That's too bad. Can't his childminder take him?

Report

Or, if they are dressing up for school he could stop at some houses on the way home?
